Are you a compassionate and experienced Counsellor looking to make a meaningful difference in the lives of young people?
We are recruiting on behalf of a specialist independent school seeking a dedicated School Counsellor to support students with a range of social, emotional and mental health needs. This is a rewarding opportunity to join a highly supportive multidisciplinary team that works with young people who may have experienced trauma, adverse childhood experiences, autism, ADHD, anxiety and attachment-related challenges.
The successful candidate will play a vital role in helping students develop emotional resilience, improve wellbeing and build confidence to achieve positive outcomes both in education and beyond.
The Role As School Counsellor, you will provide therapeutic support to students through individual and group interventions while working closely with teaching staff, SEND professionals and external agencies.
Key responsibilities include:
Delivering one-to-one counselling sessions tailored to individual student needs
Facilitating therapeutic group programmes focused on emotional regulation, anxiety management and social development
Assessing emotional wellbeing needs and contributing to personalised support plans
Providing crisis and emotional support when required
Supporting a trauma-informed approach across the school community
Working collaboratively with families and external professionals, including mental health services and social care teams
Maintaining accurate and confidential records in line with safeguarding and data protection requirements
Contributing to staff awareness and understanding of mental health and trauma-informed practiceAbout You We are looking for a qualified counselling professional who is passionate about supporting vulnerable young people and helping them overcome barriers to learning and personal development.
You will have:
A recognised qualification in Counselling, Psychology or a related therapeutic discipline
Professional accreditation or membership with an appropriate governing body such as BACP, UKCP or NCS
Experience working with children and young people, ideally within an educational, SEMH or specialist setting
Knowledge of trauma-informed approaches and evidence-based therapeutic interventions
Experience supporting individuals with complex emotional, behavioural or additional learning needs
Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
A sound understanding of safeguarding practices and child protection proceduresWhat's on Offer?
