SEN Teaching Assistant Hours: Monday – Friday, Full-Time, Term-Time Only Location: Kingston upon Thames Start Date: ASAP / September Start Available UES1 About the Role A specialist SEN school in Kingston upon Thames is seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join their supportive team. This is a rewarding opportunity to work with children and young people with a range of complex additional needs, helping them access education, develop independence, and reach their full potential. The school caters for pupils with Autism (ASC), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), speech and language needs, and complex communication difficulties. You will work alongside teachers, therapists, and other professionals to provide tailored support throughout the school day. Personal care will be required as part of this role. Key Responsibilities * Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEN * Support pupils with learning, communication, emotional regulation, and social development * Assist with implementing EHCP targets and personalised learning plans * Support pupils with personal care, including toileting, changing, feeding, and promoting independence where appropriate * Use communication tools and sensory-based strategies to support individual learning needs * Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and multidisciplinary teams * Encourage positive behaviour, confidence, and independence * Help maintain a safe, structured, and inclusive learning environment What We’re Looking For Essential: * Experience working with children or young people with SEN * Comfortable providing personal care as part of the role * Strong communication and interpersonal skills * Patient, caring, and resilient approach * Ability to build positive relationships with pupils and colleagues * Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one) * Right to Work in the UK Desirable: * Experience supporting pupils with ASC, SLD, PMLD, speech and language needs, or complex communication needs * Knowledge of PECS, Makaton, AAC, or sensory integration approaches * Experience within a specialist SEN school, mainstream school, or care setting * Relevant qualifications in education, childcare, or health and social care * Manual handling training or experience What This Role Offers * ASAP and September start opportunities available * Supportive and experienced SEN leadership team * Ongoing CPD and specialist SEN training opportunities * Well-resourced classrooms and access to multidisciplinary support * Long-term and permanent opportunities available * Opportunity to make a meaningful difference to the education, wellbeing, and independence of children and young people with additional needs
