Teach Now is looking for a resilient and compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a secondary setting in Haringey on a long-term basis.
You will support students with social, emotional and mental health needs who may find relationships, routines, behaviour or engagement with learning difficult. Your role will be to provide consistency and structure while helping young people make better choices, rebuild confidence and participate successfully in school life.
The Role
Your responsibilities may include:
Providing individual and small-group support for pupils with SEMH needs
Building positive professional relationships with students
Supporting pupils who may display challenging or dysregulated behaviour
Helping young people recognise triggers and use appropriate coping strategies
Reinforcing boundaries and expectations calmly and consistently
Supporting students to return to learning following difficult moments
Using de-escalation and restorative approaches where appropriate
Helping pupils develop resilience, independence and positive learning habits
Supporting academic work across KS3, KS4 and KS5
Recording behaviour, progress and incidents accurately
Working alongside pastoral leaders, SEN staff, teachers and external professionals
Who Would Suit This Role?

SEMH schools or provisions
Mainstream secondary SEN departments
Alternative provision or PRUs
Youth work or mentoring
Residential or social-care settings
Behaviour support
Sports coaching with vulnerable young people
Family or community support
You will need:
Recent relevant experience with children or young people
Strong behaviour-management skills
Emotional resilience and excellent professional boundaries
The ability to remain calm in challenging situations
A genuine commitment to safeguarding and inclusion
Strong communication and teamwork skills
The right to work in the UK
An Enhanced DBS, or willingness to complete the necessary application
Suitable professional references
