Senior Accountant

My client is seeking a dedicated Senior Accountant to join their Finance, Property & Procurement team.

In this key role, you will provide critical accountancy support across Council services, supervise finance staff, and advise budget managers to ensure a robust financial control framework across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

• Financial Leadership & Advice: Act as a key advisor to service managers, ensuring full compliance with Council standing orders, financial regulations, and s151 officer policies. Lead on revenue estimates, budget strategies, and final accounts.
• Team Supervision: Directly manage and mentor Accountants and Assistant Accountants, leading recruitment, appraisals, 121s, and staff development in line with management standards.
• Control & Compliance: Maintain robust financial controls, oversee regular account reconciliations, and complete statutory returns.
• Systems & Process Improvement: Design and implement accounting procedures and management reporting tools to adapt to changing legislation and client service needs.
• Strategic Support: Translate corporate priorities into clear financial guidance, supporting senior management with demand-led service modelling and strategic decision making.
