Job summary

The Department of Endocrine & Thyroid Surgery at Imperial is a tertiary referral centre for thyroid, parathyroid and adrenal surgery. It is the largest service of its kind in the UK performing in excess of 700 operations per annum including 350 thyroidectomies, 300 parathyroidectomies for primary, renal and re-operative disease and 50 adrenalectomies.

Hammersmith is the West London Thyroid Cancer Centre with over 75 new clinically significant thyroid cancers treated per annum. It is also the regional adrenal cancer centre. All aspects of parathyroid and adrenal surgery are undertaken with thoracoscopic parathyroidectomies and robotic, laparoscopic and retroperitoneoscopic adrenalectomy. The department is actively involved in clinical research. There is a weekly thyroid cancer MDT as well as a dedicated endocrine surgical MDT where complex parathyroid, adrenal and neuroendocrine disease is discussed.

Job responsibilities

The Endocrine Surgical Fellow will have a key role in the coordination and provision of endocrine surgical care at Hammersmith Hospital. They will receive comprehensive exposure to the diagnosis, work up, perioperative care and operative surgery both as first assistant and operator. It is expected that they will also supervise more junior staff both on the ward, in clinic and the operating theatre.

Qualifications

Essential

  • On GMC registered/ licensed Medical Practitioner
  • FRCS or equivalent

Desirable

  • CCT or equivalent

Relevant experience in specialty/Sub specialty

  • Minimum of 1 year experience in endocrine surgery

  • Experience in endocrine surgical procedures
