ContractSouthwark Council160 Tooley Street, London, SE1 2QH, United KingdomPosted 2 days agoJob DetailsSenior Electrical EngineerDepartment: Engineering & ComplianceBusiness Unit: Maintenance & ComplianceReporting to: Contract Manager (Electrical & Lifts)Grade: 11Role PurposeTo deliver and manage electrical engineering works across specialist contracts, refurbishment, replacement and improvement projects within the Council’s housing stock. The role provides technical expertise while overseeing contractors, budgets, programmes and compliance.Key ResponsibilitiesManage major and minor electrical engineering projects, including refurbishment and replacement programmes.Provide technical electrical advice to Contract Managers, Project Managers and senior management.Manage specialist electrical contracts, monitoring contractor performance, quality, programme and value for money.Prepare and implement electrical specifications, work schemes and project documentation.Support the procurement and tendering of electrical contracts, including tender evaluation and contract negotiations.Undertake site inspections and ensure works meet specifications, quality standards and statutory requirements.Monitor project budgets, valuations, invoices and expenditure for capital projects of up to 5m.Ensure appropriate records and monitoring systems are maintained and the Council meets its statutory electrical and engineering obligations.Support strategic investment planning, including sustainability and improvements to the Council’s housing stock.Prepare reports and technical advice for senior management and coordinate projects through to completion.Supervise one Electrical Engineer and oversee contractor/consultant staff.Experience & SkillsStrong electrical engineering background with experience managing projects and contractors.Experience in electrical contract management, refurbishment or replacement programmes.Knowledge of electrical compliance, statutory requirements and relevant industry standards.Experience preparing specifications, managing procurement and monitoring project delivery.Strong budget, programme and stakeholder management skills.Experience within a local authority, housing association, social housing or similar property environment would be highly desirable.Ability to communicate effectively with contractors, consultants, senior managers, tenants and leaseholders.Additional InformationThe role carries responsibility for capital projects valued up to 5 million and may occasionally require site attendance outside normal working hours to deal with urgent issues or emergencies. Protective clothing and safety equipment may be required when attending sites.
