Are you looking to improving patient safety and driving meaningful change across healthcare services? University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an ambitious and inspiringSenior Harm Free Care Practitioner (Band 7) with particular focus on falls to join our Corporate Nursing team.

This is a unique opportunity to become a recognised expert within the Trust's Patient Safety Team, leading Harm Free Care initiatives that reduce avoidable harm, improve patient outcomes and enhance patient experience. Working closely with the Head of Patient Safety, Lead for Harm Free Care and multidisciplinary teams, you will champion best practice across key patient safety priorities including falls prevention, deteriorating patient management, pressure ulcer prevention and venous thromboembolism (VTE) prevention.

As a visible clinical leader, you will influence Trust-wide quality improvement programmes, support the development of a strong patient safety culture, lead innovative projects and ensure learning from incidents is translated into sustainable improvements for patients and staff.

Main duties of the job

  • Lead and manage designated Harm Free Care workstreams, acting as the Trust's subject matter (Falls) expert and key point of contact for clinical teams.
  • Drive quality improvement initiatives and patient safety programmes that reduce avoidable harm and improve patient outcomes and experiences.
  • Support and empower clinical teams to embed a positive patient safety culture through education, coaching and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Analyse safety incidents, audit findings and performance data to identify opportunities for learning and service improvement.
  • Lead, develop and evaluate innovative projects and campaigns aligned with local and national patient safety priorities.
  • Produce high-quality reports, dashboards and presentations for senior leadership groups and patient safety groups.
  • Develop and deliver engaging education and training programmes to support frontline staff and improve clinical practice.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of Trust policies, procedures and standards relating to patient safety and Harm Free Care.
  • Participate in investigations, incidents and complaints processes, ensuring learning is shared and embedded across the organisation.
  • Provide professional leadership, mentorship and line management to staff within the team, supporting their development and wellbeing.
