Main duties of the job

We are seeking a passionate and dynamic individual to help drive forward the School's strategic vision: to transform cancer care by inspiring, challenging, and developing the next generation of innovative health professionals through outstanding education.

As part of a dedicated team of experienced Senior Lecturers and Lecturer Practitioners, you will collaborate closely with the Programme Leads to deliver high-quality teaching across our postregistration and postgraduate programmes. This includes bespoke short courses and study days, offered both in-person and via virtual learning platforms.

In this role, you will play a key part in shaping student learning by leading, coordinating, and delivering validated modules. You will also have the opportunity to engage in clinical practice, contribute to scholarly activity, and participate in research--ensuring your teaching remains grounded in the latest evidence and best practice.

Job responsibilities

  • Participating in the development of teaching in the School, sharing and reflecting on ideas and experiences; mentoring colleagues; evaluating teaching activity and outcomes.
  • Participating in Peer Review of teaching, receiving, and giving supportive feedback and advice to help sustain and enhance the quality of teaching in the School.
  • Being involved in the evaluation of teaching and learning activities, ensuring that education and practice are linked.
  • If qualified, provide academic leadership and support to course / curriculum development and delivery.
  • Being an academic supervisor of students undertaking practice projects / dissertations (at academic level(s) appropriate to the post holders qualification.
  • Marking of assignments, dissertations, and other forms of assessments in a timely way and, if experienced, moderating assignments.
  • Contributing to developments and initiatives within the School such as academic planning, on-line innovation, and bespoke project work.Participating in and/or leading on the School quality assurance processes.

Person specification

Education/Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Health Care Professional.
  • MSc /MA in an appropriate subject
  • Cancer qualification

Desirable

  • Fellow of the HEA
  • PhD (or working towards)
  • Post- graduate teaching qualification (preferably also recognised by professional body).

Experience

Essential

  • Minimum 5 years post registration experience in a relevant clinical setting
  • Experience of clinical leadership role during career
  • Experience of teaching in Higher Education or Clinical Practice setting

Desirable

  • Experience of acute oncology
  • Advanced Communication skills training
  • Experience of research and scholarship activity/project management related to education and/or cancer care

Knowledge

Essential

  • Knowledge/experience of teaching in a variety of settings
  • Knowledge of research methods and processes
  • Current knowledge of health/education policies/standards

Desirable

  • Current knowledge of care of individuals with cancer including from: surgery, SACT, haem oncology, specific cancer diagnostic groups: breast; gynaecology; lung cancer and palliative care
