The closing date is 03 August 2026

Applications are invited for a 12-month fellowship in Ophthalmology (Corneal) at the Manchester Royal Eye Hospital to commence August 2026 to August 2027.

Main Duties

The Fellow attends specialist clinics and dedicated corneal theatre sessions under the direction of the consultant trainers. They will acquire skills appropriate to consultant ophthalmologists providing a major subspecialist service in a large eye centre. The post offers wide clinical experience in the management of corneal and external eye diseases and refractive laser surgery. The Fellow will gain experience working in a multidisciplinary environment through close liaison with the corneal nurse practitioner, optometrists, contact lens practitioners and colleagues within rheumatology, dermatology, ENT and oral medicine (most of these specialties are within MFT).

The Fellow participates actively in the diagnosis, management and follow‑up of patients under the care of the Consultant. They will undertake surgery under supervision and, where appropriate, unsupervised. Each week Fellows usually are involved in 3 supervised operating sessions together with 2 specialist clinics, and will also attend weekly sessions within the refractive laser suite. The Corneal Fellow will lead an acute corneal clinic once a week and may supervise some of the work of junior trainees as part of their training experience.
