About The Role

Balfour Beatty is looking for an experienced Senior Planner to join our Planning team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the successful delivery of complex construction projects by leading the development, management and optimisation of project programmes and schedules.

As a Senior Planner, you will provide strategic planning expertise across tender and contract stages, ensuring programmes are robust, compliant and aligned with project objectives. You will work closely with project teams and stakeholders while mentoring and supporting less experienced planners to drive planning excellence across the business.

What you'll be doing

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development, maintenance and management of complex construction project programmes.
  • Ensure programme content is compliant with planning procedures, contractual requirements and project objectives.
  • Identify planning scope, key project constraints, major quantities and factors influencing project delivery.
  • Develop and agree optimum construction methodologies, sequencing and delivery strategies during tender stages.
  • Produce high-quality planning deliverables including programmes, presentations, reports and planning philosophies.
  • Develop and maintain Contract Programmes throughout project lifecycles.
  • Analyse and monitor project critical paths, identifying risks, opportunities and corrective actions.
  • Manage project baselines and support change control processes.
  • Support effective resource planning, including labour, plant, equipment and materials.
  • Monitor programme performance through project reporting, data analysis and KPI tracking.
  • Work collaboratively with project teams, clients, subcontractors and other stakeholders.
  • Provide strategic planning oversight and mentor Assistant, Trainee and Planner level colleagues.

Skills

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

  • Leadership and mentoring capability.

Knowledge

  • Advanced knowledge of planning software such as Primavera P6, ASTA Powerproject, Microsoft Project and Excel.
  • Comprehensive understanding of construction project management principles and best practice.
  • Strong knowledge of project scheduling, planning and programme management.
  • Understanding of tender documentation, contracts and technical specifications.
  • Knowledge of risk management techniques including programme risk analysis and schedule risk assessment.

Experience

  • Significant experience producing and managing construction programmes across complex projects.
  • Demonstrated experience leading planning activities within construction or infrastructure environments.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain effective relationships with clients, subcontractors and key project stakeholders.
  • Experience mentoring or leading other planning professionals is desirable.
