Senior / Principal Scientist - In Vitro Models

Oxford | On-site | Start-up Biotechnology Company

The Role:

As a Senior or Principal Scientist, you'll lead the development of complex in vitro systems, including 3D cultures, co-cultures, organoids and organ-on-a-chip platforms, with a particular focus on generating robust models to evaluate gene therapy vector performance. This is a predominantly hands-on laboratory position.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, establish and optimise advanced in vitro models, including 3D cultures, organoids, co-cultures and organ-on-a-chip systems.
  • Develop physiologically relevant tissue models using primary cells, with a particular interest in kidney biology.
  • Design and execute assays to assess vector transduction, transgene expression and safety.
  • Generate, analyse and interpret complex biological datasets to support research decisions.
  • Work closely with multidisciplinary teams across vector engineering, in vivo research and delivery technologies.
  • Maintain high laboratory standards and contribute to multiple research programmes simultaneously.

Your Background:

PhD in a relevant life sciences discipline and bring industry experience within biotechnology, pharmaceuticals or translational research environments.

Proven experience developing complex in vitro cell culture models (3D cultures, organoids and/or co-cultures).

Strong hands-on mammalian cell culture experience, including primary cells.

Excellent molecular and cellular biology laboratory skills.

Experience analysing complex biological data.

Highly Desirable

Experience developing organ-on-a-chip or microphysiological systems.

Primary kidney cell culture or renal model experience.

Gene therapy, viral vector or advanced therapeutics experience.

If you're passionate about developing advanced in vitro models and want to contribute to pioneering gene therapy research with real patient impact, we'd love to hear from you.

Why Apply

  • Help develop next-generation gene therapies that have the potential to transform the lives of patients with genetic diseases.
  • Lead cutting-edge research using advanced in vitro models, including organoids, 3D cultures and organ-on-a-chip technologies.
  • Join a collaborative, venture-backed biotech where you'll work alongside expert scientists and have a direct impact on research and innovation.
  • Bonus, private healthcare insurance, life insurance, and an equity options scheme

It is essential that applicants hold entitlement to work in the UK.
