Senior Quantity Surveyor – Structural Steel
To be considered for an interview, please make sure your application is full in line with the job specs as found below.
Location: London
Salary: Up to £85,000 DOE
Job Type: Permanent, Full Time
The Company
Some steelwork is simply part of a building.
Some projects change the London skyline.
This is an opportunity to join an established structural steel business with a strong project pipeline and an increasing presence across the London market.
The work is there. The projects are significant. What they need now is an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor who understands structural steel and knows how to take ownership of the commercial side from contract award through to final account.
This is not about maintaining spreadsheets and reporting yesterday's numbers.
It is about understanding where the money is, spotting the risk before it becomes a problem and making sure the commercial position reflects what is actually happening on site.
The Role
You will:
- Own the commercial management of structural steel projects from contract award through to final account.
- Manage valuations, applications for payment, variations, change control and commercial reporting.
- Protect project margins by identifying commercial risks and opportunities early.
- Lead commercial discussions with clients, subcontractors and internal project teams.
- Work closely with estimating, project management and delivery teams to keep the commercial position aligned with project progress.
- Drive final accounts and resolve commercial issues rather than allowing them to carry forward.
The Candidate
This is not an opportunity for someone looking to make their first move into Quantity Surveying.
You will already have 5–10 years' Quantity Surveying experience and a strong background within structural steelwork or specialist construction.
Must Have
- 5–10 years' Quantity Surveying experience.
- Strong structural steelwork experience.
- Understanding of the commercial challenges surrounding steel fabrication, supply and installation.
- Experience managing valuations, variations, applications for payment and final accounts.
- Confidence dealing directly with clients, subcontractors and project teams.
- Ability to identify commercial risk and protect project margins.
- Experience taking ownership of projects and being accountable for the commercial outcome.
Why This Role?
The London market brings its own commercial challenges.
You will be dealing with significant structural steel projects where procurement, fabrication, installation, variations and programme can all have a direct impact on the bottom line.
This gives you genuine ownership of projects rather than simply managing a small part of the commercial process.
You will have direct exposure to senior decision-makers and the opportunity to influence the commercial outcome of projects from start to finish.
What’s on Offer
- Up to £85,000, depending on experience.
- Genuine senior commercial responsibility.
- Significant structural steel projects across the London market.
- Direct exposure to senior decision-makers.
- Strong project pipeline and long-term stability.
- The opportunity to make a measurable commercial impact within the business.
