The Role
We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our clients R&D function, reporting directly to the Head of R&D. In this role you'll design and govern the software architecture and CI/CD processes that their engineering team builds within.
You'll take ownership of the architectural framework spanning robotics payloads, vehicle automation, computer vision, sensor integration, digital twins, and simulation - ensuring everything they build is scalable, maintainable, and defensible against safety-critical standards.
You'll know how to let early-stage prototypes move fast on the right evidential path, without forcing full compliance before it's needed - while making sure the architecture is built to scale to full qualification when the time comes.
What You'll Do
Define and implement end-to-end software architecture and CI/CD pipelines for remote and autonomous systems
Establish unit testing, verification, and validation processes, building the evidence base needed to meet defence safety-critical standards
Integrate architecture across control systems, computer vision, sensor fusion, simulation, and digital twin platforms
Support system integration, commissioning, and real-world field trials alongside global military end users
What You'll Bring
Essential:
A strong track record in software architecture for safety-critical or compliance-driven systems
Hands-on experience with C/C++ and Python in Linux real-time environments
Confidence reading electrical schematics and working across the hardware/software boundary
Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines for safety-critical software
A degree xwzovoh in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent (2:1 minimum)
Nice to Have:
Familiarity with ROS/ROS2
Experience with machine learning, OpenCV, or CODESYS/PLC environments
A background in automotive safety systems, defence, robotics, or autonomous vehicle development
What's In It for You
£70,000 basic salary
8% matched pension
Free breakfast and lunch daily on-site
35-hour week: Tuesday-Thursday on-site, Monday/Friday from home, with an early finish on Fridays
Up to £5,000 relocation allowance for the right candidate
