Senior Structural Engineer Leeds Full-Time or Part-Time If you're a Structural Engineer who enjoys actually designing buildings but wants more ownership of your projects, a clearer route forward and a role that can offer some genuine flexibility around your working week, this could be a really good move. An established Civil and Structural Engineering Consultancy on the south side of Leeds is looking for a Senior Structural Engineer to join its growing structures team. They are equally happy to consider somebody looking for a traditional full-time position or an experienced Engineer wanting to work on a part-time basis. It's an independent, family-run business where engineers work closely with the Technical Directors, decisions are made locally and good people have the opportunity to shape their role as the company continues to develop. The Consultancy has built a particularly strong reputation within specialist living and healthcare, working on care homes, retirement living, integrated communities and extra-care developments throughout the UK. This is a genuine area of expertise for the business rather than simply another sector on a long list. That doesn't mean you'll only be designing care homes. Alongside its specialist living portfolio, the team delivers commercial, residential, education, healthcare, industrial and refurbishment projects, including work with a select group of contractors across the M62, M1 and A1 corridors. Typical major projects are in the £8m-£15m range and are becoming increasingly ambitious as the business grows. For the right Structural Engineer, the attraction here is the level of involvement you'll have: You won't be restricted to one small part of the design process or disappear into a large project team. You'll be involved from early concepts and structural schemes through detailed design and construction, working directly with clients, architects, contractors and other consultants. Day to day, you'll be designing structures across steel, reinforced concrete, masonry and timber, looking at foundations and substructures, producing calculations and technical information, attending design meetings and visiting sites. You'll also get involved with existing buildings, structural inspections and developing practical solutions where refurbishment or remediation is required. There's plenty of technical responsibility, but the role doesn't have to stay purely technical. If you want to move further into project running, client management or eventually take on wider responsibility within the business, the Technical Directors can develop the position around that. Equally, if you're strongest technically and want to continue developing in that direction, there's room for that too. There is also flexibility around the shape of the role itself. The business would happily consider somebody joining on a full-time basis, but they are also genuinely open to experienced Structural Engineers looking for a part-time position and a working pattern that better fits around life outside work. They're looking for someone who already has solid experience designing building structures within a UK consultancy environment and is comfortable taking responsibility for their own work. You'll ideally have experience with packages such as TEDDS, Tekla Structural Designer, MasterSeries and Revit/AutoCAD, although they aren't expecting somebody to tick every box. Chartership would be welcomed, whether through IStructE or ICE, but somebody working towards it - or an experienced Engineer who can demonstrate the equivalent level of capability - would also be considered. More than anything, they're looking for a good Structural Engineer who wants to be part of a smaller, collaborative consultancy where they can have a genuine influence rather than simply being another person in a large team. It's a particularly good opportunity for somebody who enjoys the technical side of structural engineering but is starting to think about what the next five years of their career should look like - or an experienced Engineer who wants to continue working on interesting projects without necessarily committing to a five-day working week.
