Senior Sustainability Manager
Job summary
Are you passionate about creating a more sustainable future and making a lasting impact on healthcare? We are looking for an experienced sustainability professional to lead our environmental sustainability programme and help deliver our carbon reduction ambitions in line with the NHS Net Zero commitment.
This is an exciting opportunity to build on the strong progress already made through our Green Plan while shaping the next phase of our sustainability journey. Working closely with the Director of Sustainability, you will lead strategic projects, influence change across the organisation, and support colleagues to embed sustainable practices into everyday decision-making.
You will alsoline manageone or more members of our joint Sustainability Team, helping to foster a collaborative, inclusive and high-performing culture where innovation and continuous improvement are encouraged.
As part of a strategic sustainability partnership between Central London Community Healthcare and West London NHS Trust, you will work across organisational boundaries to deliver shared priorities and maximise environmental impact.

Main duties of the job
You will lead and coordinate the Trust's environmental sustainability programme across the Greener NHS priorities, including:

Climate adaptation
Working across approximately 90 community sites, you will:

Lead and deliver sustainability projects that support the Trust's Green Plan and NHS Net Zero ambitions.

Build strong relationships with clinical and corporate teams to embed sustainable practices across services.

Coordinate work across departments, ensuring programmes are delivered effectively and aligned with organisational priorities.

Work closely with colleagues at West London NHS Trust to deliver shared workstreams and ensure a consistent approach across both organisations.

Provide leadership,guidanceand support to members of the Sustainability Team.
Strong project management,communicationand relationship-building skills are essential. Experience in healthcare is beneficial but not essential, and we welcome applicants who candemonstratetransferable sustainabilityexpertise. The role includes travel between Trust sites, so flexibility is important.

Education/Qualification
Essential
- Qualified to a Masters degree level in environmental management, geography or other relevant degree, or has equivalent relevant experience with additional training and/or Qualification
Desirable
- IEMA Certificate in Environmental Management or equivalent.
- Prince project management certificate or equivalent
Experience
Essential
- Evidence of successful management of a green sustainability programme in a large complex organisation
- Experience of effective planning and project management reporting
- Experience delivering successful environmental behavior change marketing exercises
- A proven track record of delivering outcomes through leading, influencing, motivating, managing and empowering multi-disciplinary teams and across professional boundaries.
- Experience of effective progress reporting
- Experience of carbon footprint reporting.
- Experience of leading and working across multiple organisations to deliver a joint programme
- Experience of developing partnership working with third-party organisations to mutual benefit.
- Evidence of successful budget management
- Evidence of effective people management and development of staff

- Experience of working in the NHS or healthcare sector

- Detailed knowledge of the global and national sustainability agenda
- Knowledge of the structure and functioning of the NHS, the Greener NHS Programme and NHS Net Zero Plan
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to develop an effective communications programme
- Ability to communicate complex information clearly in a manner appropriate to the audience. Including having to communicate difficult messages about trade-offs between priorities and where targets have not been achieved.
