Service Fitter / Engineer

We’re currently looking to recruit a Service Fitter to join a well‑established heavy engineering manufacturer based in Huddersfield (HD4). This role is workshop‑based with regular onsite work when required — all travel to customer sites is completed in company vehicles and paid from door. The business is a global engineering organisation specialising in high‑integrity gear systems, industrial drive solutions, and complex rotating machinery. What we’re looking for * Experienced gearbox fitters, OR * Skilled mechanical fitters with strong experience working on rotating parts, assemblies, shafts, bearings, couplings or similar precision components. Key Responsibilities * Stripping, inspecting and rebuilding industrial gearboxes and rotating equipment * Mechanical fitting, assembly and alignment of shafts, bearings, seals and associated components * Fault‑finding, diagnosing wear, damage or failure modes * Completing detailed service reports, measurements and documentation * Working to tight tolerances and engineering drawings * Supporting onsite service work including breakdowns, installations and commissioning * Ensuring all work meets safety, quality and customer standards * Collaborating with engineering, machining and service teams to deliver high‑quality repairs Qualifications & Experience * Apprenticeship‑trained (Mechanical) * NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering / Maintenance * Strong background in fitting, assembly or rotating machinery * Ability to read engineering drawings and work to precise tolerances * Full UK driving licence (for onsite work) What’s on offer * £20.47 per hour basic * 37.5 hours per week * Overtime enhancements available * Company vehicle provided for all onsite work * Door‑to‑door travel paid * Long‑term stability within a respected engineering manufacturer If this role is of interest to you, please apply online or contact Ashleigh direct on (phone number removed)
