Hays are recruiting on behalf of a leading construction and civil engineering contractor for an HSEQ Advisor to join their team on a permanent basis. Your new role
As an HSEQ Advisor, you will provide support across multiple construction and civil engineering projects, ensuring the highest standards of health, safety, environmental and quality compliance are maintained at all times.
You will be responsible for carrying out regular site inspections, audits and safety observations, identifying areas for improvement and assisting project teams in implementing best practice. You will support the preparation and review of risk assessments, method statements and safe systems of work, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and company procedures.
The role will also involve investigating incidents, accidents and near misses, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions where required. You will deliver site inductions, toolbox talks and safety alerts, monitor environmental and quality performance, maintain accurate HSEQ records and provide regular reports to management teams.
Working closely with site personnel, subcontractors and clients, you will play a key role in promoting a positive safety culture and supporting continuous improvement initiatives across all projects.
What you'll need to succeed
To be considered for this position, you will have at least five years' experience within an HSEQ, SHEQ or Health & Safety advisory role gained within a construction, main contracting or civil engineering environment.
You will demonstrate a strong understanding of health and safety legislation, auditing processes, inspections and incident investigations, alongside experience supporting environmental and quality management systems. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential, with the ability to influence a positive safety culture across project teams.
Applicants should hold a NEBOSH Construction Certificate or equivalent Health & Safety qualification, with IOSH membership desirable. Experience using Microsoft Office packages and digital management systems is advantageous. A full driving licence and willingness to travel between project locations is also required.
