Job Role of the Shift Maintenance Engineer
An exciting opportunity has become available for a Shift Maintenance Engineer to join a large FMCG manufacturing business during an exciting period of growth. Working as part of a multi-skilled engineering team, you will be responsible for maintaining a wide range of automated production machinery through planned and reactive maintenance, helping to maximise equipment reliability and site performance.
This is a varied, hands‑on role where you'll support breakdown response, continuous improvement initiatives and engineering projects within a fast‑paced manufacturing environment.

Non‑Negotiable Requirements of the Shift Maintenance Engineer
- NVQ Level 3 Engineering qualification (or equivalent).
- Multi‑Skilled Maintenance experience.
- Previous manufacturing maintenance experience.
- Strong electrical and mechanical fault‑finding ability.
Requirements for the Shift Maintenance Engineer
- Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM).
- Reactive breakdown maintenance.
- Electrical and mechanical fault finding.
- Reading electrical and mechanical engineering drawings.
- Basic PLC I/O understanding.
- Motors, drives, gearboxes and transmission systems.
- Bearings, brakes and closed‑loop feedback systems.
- Continuous Improvement.
- Root Cause Analysis.
- CMMS experience.
- Health & Safety awareness.
Desirable Requirements for the Shift Maintenance Engineer
- Food or FMCG manufacturing experience.
- 18th Edition Wiring Regulations.
- SCADA or machine control systems.
- Variable Speed Drives (VSDs).
- Fabrication or welding experience.
- MEWP licence.
- Health & Safety qualification.
The Shift Maintenance Engineer will benefit from:
- Salary up to £49,000.
- 4 on 4 off shift pattern (2 Days / 2 Nights).
- 20 days annual leave (Bank Holidays taken from annual leave, excluding Christmas Day and New Year’s Day).
