Shift Manager

Shift Manager Working Hours: Continental Shifts 4 on, 4 off (2 x 12-hour day shifts, 2 x 12-hour night shifts, followed by 4 days off) About the Company: Our client is a well-established and rapidly growing manufacturing business specialising in the design and production of sustainable thermoformed plastic packaging. Operating from a modern, high-specification manufacturing facility in Haydock, they supply packaging solutions to leading retailers, major food manufacturers and internationally recognised brands. The Role: We are recruiting for an experienced Shift Manager to lead production operations on shift within a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Reporting into the senior operations team, you will be responsible for managing production performance, leading and developing your team, maintaining high quality standards and ensuring the safe and efficient running of thermoforming production lines. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced production leader from a thermoforming, plastics or FMCG manufacturing background who enjoys leading teams and driving operational excellence. Key Responsibilities: Production Leadership Lead, motivate and develop a team of thermoforming machine operators and production personnel. Allocate work effectively to achieve production targets. Recruit, train and coach employees to maximise performance. Monitor attendance, performance and productivity across the shift. Promote a positive, accountable and high-performing team culture. Production Management Ensure production targets are achieved safely, efficiently and on time. Monitor machine performance, production output and downtime. Optimise machine settings to improve efficiency and product quality. Troubleshoot production issues and coordinate with maintenance teams to minimise disruption. Produce accurate shift reports and update production KPIs. Operate and update the company's ERP system. Quality Ensure products consistently meet customer and internal quality standards. Carry out regular quality inspections throughout production. Investigate quality concerns and implement corrective actions. Maintain accurate production and quality documentation. Health & Safety Promote a strong safety culture across the manufacturing facility. Ensure all employees follow company health and safety procedures. Deliver toolbox talks and safety briefings where required. Investigate accidents, incidents and near misses, implementing preventative actions. Ensure compliance with company policies and industry regulations. Communication Work closely with other Shift Managers, Production, Engineering and Quality teams. Provide regular updates on production performance and operational issues. Support continuous improvement initiatives across the manufacturing operation. About You: We're looking for someone who has: Previous experience in a Shift Manager, Production Manager or Manufacturing Supervisor position. Experience within thermoforming, vacuum forming, plastics manufacturing or FMCG production . Strong knowledge of thermoforming processes and manufacturing equipment. Excellent leadership and people management skills. Experience managing production KPIs and driving operational performance. Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities. Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office and ERP/MRP systems. A proactive approach with excellent organisational skills. Desirable Experience Thermoforming or vacuum forming experience. PET and PP materials knowledge. Lean Manufacturing or Continuous Improvement experience. Health & Safety qualification or management experience. Counterbalance FLT licence. First Aid qualification.
