Site-Based Engineering Geologist / Geotechnical Engineer / Geoscientist Salary: £30,000-£38,000 per annum (DOE) (paid hourly) + discretionary annual bonus Hours: 45 hours per week Location: South Wales and/or Somerset (site-based across the UK; occasional overnight stays) Join a Growing Ground Investigation Team A well-established and expanding ground investigation and geotechnical consultancy is looking for an enthusiastic Engineering Geologist, Geotechnical Engineer, or Geoscientist to join its team. This is a strong opportunity for a graduate or early-career professional who wants to build practical site experience and progress within the ground engineering industry. You'll work alongside experienced staff on a broad mix of UK ground investigation and geotechnical projects, with structured support to develop your technical and reporting capability. The Role You'll support and supervise a range of ground investigation activities and contribute to high-quality factual and interpretative reporting. Key responsibilities include: Supervising GI site activities (drilling operations, trial pitting, pavement inspections) Logging soils and rock in line with relevant British Standards Completing a range of in-situ testing Processing and managing digital site data Completing gas and groundwater monitoring programmes Collecting gas and groundwater samples using appropriate techniques Surveying exploratory holes and other project-specific locations Assisting with factual and interpretative ground investigation reports Ensuring works are completed safely and in line with procedures and best practice Liaising professionally with clients, contractors, and other stakeholders UK-wide travel to sites, including occasional overnight stays Essential Requirements Degree in Geology, Engineering Geology, Earth Science, Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering (or similar) Full UK driving licence Good IT skills and confidence using digital data capture systems Willingness to work outdoors year-round in all conditions Strong organisation skills and attention to detail Reliable, responsible, and able to work independently when required Commitment to safe working practices, including basic risk assessment Able to meet industry training requirements (including gaining a CSCS card) Desirable Requirements Previous experience in ground investigation / geotechnical / geological / civil engineering Construction-related certs (CSCS, SSSTS, SMSTS, NRSWA) Membership of a relevant professional body Site supervision and/or GI reporting experience Clear long-term interest in developing within ground engineering What's On Offer Supportive, relaxed working environment Flexible base from South Wales and/or Somerset Company vehicle Paid travel time and pay for all hours worked 23 days annual leave + bank holidays Structured training and development programme Industry-recognised accredited training courses Dedicated mentoring and career development support Long-term progression opportunities within a growing business Varied UK project exposure across GI and geotechnical work
