Site Engineer - Highways Location: Highways Project Rate: £490 per day PAYE Umbrella Contract: 1 month holiday cover, with potential for extension Proposed End Date: 25/09/2026 Start: ASAP We are currently seeking an experienced Site Engineer to join a highways project on an initial 1-month holiday cover contract, with potential for extension. The successful candidate will be responsible for site engineering control and implementation of works, including setting out, quality control, site records, progress monitoring and supporting the wider site team. Key Responsibilities Setting out from primary control using level, EDM and GPS. Reading and interpreting drawings, schedules, specifications and contract documentation. Producing setting-out sketches and maintaining survey equipment. Contributing to the production and briefing of Permits to Dig. Producing Task Briefing Sheets and supporting site safety briefings and inspections. Supporting hazard identification and the development of Safe Systems of Work. Producing as-built drawings and records for completed works. Completing Quality Check Sheets and supporting handover documentation. Maintaining accurate daily diaries, photographs and records of site discussions. Measuring actual materials used and reconciling against theoretical quantities. Monitoring and recording weekly progress against programme. Producing accurate daily records of labour, plant, materials, subcontractors and outputs. Completing weekly measures, material take-offs and schedules. Identifying and accurately recording additional works. Supporting the wider engineering and construction team to ensure works are delivered safely, accurately and in line with programme. Essential Requirements Previous experience working as a Site Engineer, ideally within highways or civil engineering. Strong setting-out experience using Level, EDM and GPS. Good understanding of Permit to Dig systems. Ability to read and understand drawings, schedules and specifications. Understanding of construction tolerances and Activity Control Plans. Experience producing as-builts and detailed handover documentation. Ability to take off and schedule material quantities accurately. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to take ownership of tasks and work on own initiative. Current CSCS Card. Current UK driving licence. Flexibility to work unsociable hours/nights where required.
