Band 6 Healthcare Scientist (Neurophysiology) - Maternity Cover

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Band 6 Healthcare Scientistto join our friendly and dynamic Neurophysiology team, on a fixed-term maternity cover basis. The successful candidate will perform a range of diagnostic neurophysiological investigations, providing high-quality patient-centred care to both adults and children in both outpatient and inpatient settings.

Working closely with consultants, clinical physiologists, and multidisciplinary teams, you will be responsible for delivering accurate diagnostic data, maintaining high professional standards, and supporting service delivery.

This role is ideal for either a recently qualified individual, or an experienced Healthcare Scientist, who is committed to delivering excellent patient care and contributing to a high-performing service.

Main duties of the job

To perform a comprehensive range of basic and advanced neurophysiological investigations on patients of all ages, demonstrating a high level of technical expertise, accuracy, and clinical competence.

These investigations will include paediatric and adult EEG, on both outpatients and inpatients, Nerve Conduction Studies performed within Healthcare Scientist-led Carpal Tunnel clinics and long-term video EEG monitoring on children.

To independently interpret neurophysiological investigations and provide technical reports, specialist advice, and recommendations to support clinical decision-making and patient management.

To participate in the coordination, delivery of the Clinical Neurophysiology On-Call Service (Saturdays and Bank-Holidays), ensuring a responsive and effective service to Bristol NHS Foundation Trust.

Qualifications

Essential

  • STP MSc in Clinical Science (Neurophysiology Pathway) Or BSc (Hons) Clinical Physiology (Neurophysiology Or Postgraduate Certificate in Neurophysiology Or Equivalent formal specialist training; e.g. BTEC HNC in MPPM or equivalent

Desirable

  • AHCS/PSA or HCPC registration

Experience

Essential

  • Has experience of independently performing and reporting both adult and paediatric EEG recordings
  • Has experience of independently performing portable EEGs, including on Intensive Care Units.

Desirable

  • Has experience of independently performing basic adult Nerve Conduction Studies
  • Has experience of independently performing SomatoSensory Evoked Potentials
