Job summary

An exciting fixed term/secondment opportunity to cover maternity leave until June 2027, has arisen for a part time Specialist Occupational Therapist to join The Trauma and Orthopaedic Therapy Team. The Team is based across 2 sites: elective surgery at Hinchingbrooke Hospital and Trauma Orthopaedics at Peterborough City Hospital. The post predominantly will be based at the Peterborough site but may also be required to support at Hinchingbrooke.

As a large and thriving team we are looking for an enthusiastic, forward thinking and professional individual to join our friendly and supportive Therapy Service. We are invested in enhancing your specialist clinical knowledge as well as supporting and developing your managerial and leadership skills.

Successful candidate needs to be fully qualified Occupational Therapist with experience in an Acute Hospital environment and HCPC registered, ideally with previous experience working with the management of orthopaedic patients.

Modern healthcare delivery requires a 7-day service and therefore weekend working is required

Interviews for this role will be conducted in person to assess relevant skills effectively.

Main duties of the job

To enable OT to provide Therapy Skills within the inpatient service in the Specialist field

To ensure safe, efficient and effective delivery of patient focussed care in line with identified evidence based practice, local and national standards

To work collaboratively within Multidisciplinary and Multi-agency Teams

To participate in delegated projects for service development with the team

To act autonomously in the assessment and treatment of patients within the speciality who may have a complex presentation

To demonstrate a flexible approach to working in support of the whole in patient team

To undertake weekend working as required within service developments

To be available to provide Clinical Supervision

This role entails 90% Clinical Contact and 10% Operational Management as appropriate within team requirements

To guide Band 5 and support staff in the management and delivery of therapeutic care plans

Personal Qualities

Essential

  • Ability to manage own time and pressure
  • Ability to demonstrate personal and clinical effectiveness to achieve optimum patient care
  • Strong belief in and evidence of CPD and Reflective Practice

Qualifications

Essential

  • Degree/Diploma in OT
  • HCPC Registered

Desirable

  • RCOT Member

Experience

Essential

  • Wide variety Band 5 core rotations (to include Orthopaedics)
  • Acute NHS Hospital experience

Desirable

  • Experience of supervising staff
  • Clinical experience in Orthopaedics (within last 12 months)

Knowledge

Essential

  • Clinical knowledge in clinical conditions associated with specialist area/sound level in theoretical knowledge of inpatient areas
  • Sound working knowledge of the multi-disciplinary team
  • Experience in use of IT system for data recording and Quality Audit

Desirable

  • Experience of providing supervision to junior staff
