We are looking for a dynamic and motivated pharmacy technician to support our supply service team.

You will be part of a friendly, innovative and supportive pharmacy team, delivering a high-quality patient focused clinical pharmacy service to:

  • Adult and Older People's Mental Health wards
  • Child Adolescent Mental Health wards
  • Community Hospital wards/Palliative care

Main duties of the job

To work with the pharmacy team to support and develop the Pharmacy service provided to the forensic in-patient areas within Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (NHFT) at the Billing Road site.

NHFT provides services to three mental health hospitals - Billing Road Site and Berrywood Hospital, Northampton and St Mary's Hospital, Kettering. NHFT also provides a service to Community Hospital sites in Corby, Wellingborough, Brackley and Danetre and hospices in Kettering and Northampton

The post-holder will take a lead role in reviewing and implementing changes in the medicines management technical service provision to reflect current practice.

The post-holder will work with the wider Pharmacy team to ensure a timely and effective Pharmacy service and will manage technical staff based at the Billing Road site, Northampton

The post holder will be expected to perform a wide range of activities at ward level which will include medicines reconciliation, management of medication supply for in-patients including stock, non- stock, discharge, leave and medicines for self-administration, and supporting ward areas with management of the disposal and record keeping of unwanted medicines from in-patient areas.

Job responsibilities

To lead the technical aspects of the medicines management service and support medicines reconciliation at ward level.

To provide advice to all healthcare professionals on the safe storage and handling of medicines.

To maintain safe systems of medication supply to in-patient areas in association with the provider service pharmacy team.

To work with the Mental Health Pharmacy Teams to help develop the service provided and propose changes to working practices to improve efficiency and governance as the service develops.

To manage those staff allocated to make the best use of their qualifications, abilities and experience.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Current registration and membership with the GPhC as a Pharmacy Technician
  • NVQ Level 3 in Pharmacy Services (or course equivalent)
  • Evidence of recent continuing professional learning

Experience

Essential

  • Minimum of 2 years post qualification experience in the NHS as a pharmacy technician
  • Ward-based Medicines Management Experience
  • IT literate with the ability to use electronic systems/spreadsheets/databases
  • Experience of working within a multidisciplinary team

Desirable

  • Previous use of SystmOne
  • Previous experience of hospital electronic prescribing and medicines administration systems
  • Previous experience of writing and reviewing Standard Operating Procedures
