Are you a passionate and motivated podiatrist looking for a rewarding career? An exciting opportunity has arisen for two permanent Band 6 Podiatrists to join the Manchester Local Care Organisation's Community Podiatry team in Central Manchester.

Main duties of the job

• Versatile Work Settings: Provide care across acute settings, community clinics, residential and nursing homes, day centres, and patients' homes.
• Patient Treatment Management: Actively manage treatment programmes in line with care planning and discharge guidelines.
• Collaborative Decision-Making: Use the decision-making processes to identify when patients need referrals to other professionals or specialist areas, following agreed pathways.
• Nail Surgery: Perform nail surgery (undertaking procedures under supervision if not already proficient).
• Specialist Rotations: Participate in rotations in areas such as nail surgery, diabetes, patho-mechanics, and vascular care.
• Orthoses Provision: Arrange for orthoses, pressure-relieving insoles, and shoe inserts as needed.
• Workload Planning: Plan and manage your daily workload for wards, clinics, home visits, and visits to residential and nursing homes.
• Flexibility: Provide cover for other podiatrists at short notice or during absences, covering sites across North Manchester.
• Administrative Duties: Complete all necessary administrative tasks associated with the role.
• Additional Duties: Perform any other duties as required by the department.
• Compliance: Adhere to all Trust policies, guidelines, and procedures.

Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check

As part of our commitment to safeguarding patients and staff, many roles at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT) require a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. This is a standard process across the NHS and helps us ensure a safe environment for everyone.

What is a DBS Check?

A DBS check is a background check that reveals any criminal convictions, cautions, reprimands, or warnings. The level of check required depends on the role:

Standard DBS: Checks for spent and unspent convictions, cautions, reprimands, and final warnings.

Enhanced DBS: Includes the above, plus any additional information held by local police that’s considered relevant to the role.

Enhanced with Barred Lists: Includes all of the above, plus checks against the children’s and/or adults’ barred lists.

Who Needs a DBS Check

Most roles involving direct patient contact, working with children or vulnerable adults, or access to sensitive information will require a DBS check. The job advert and recruitment team will let you know if this applies to your role.

The Costs for a DBS

At Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT), roles that require a DBS check are subject to a cost recovery policy. This means that the cost of submitting and processing a DBS application if you are successful and join us, will be deducted from your salary within the first three months of employment. If, however, you withdraw from a conditional offer after the DBS process has begun, you will still be liable for the cost incurred.

Candidates are also expected to register with the DBS Update Service which must be completed within 30 days of the certificate being issued. This helps streamline future employment checks and supports safer recruitment practices. For more information, please visit the DBS Update Service.

Person specification

Educational /qualifications / state registration

• Recognised BSc Honours degree in podiatry or equivalent
• State registration via Health and Care Professions Council
• Evidence of relevant post graduate training including attendance at relevant specialist courses
• Registered member of The College of Podiatry

Knowledge and Experience

• Previous postgraduate clinical experience as a junior in a broad rotational post
• Previous postgraduate clinical experience of managing high risk podiatry patients
• Specialist knowledge of podiatry assessment and treatment technique
• Working knowledge of local and national policies and procedures e.g. Manual Handling, The Royal College of Podiatry/Health and Care Professionals Council Code of Conduct/Ethics, Health and Safety, Infection Control, CPR, Equality and Diversity
• Evidence of Continual Professional Development
• Experience of and commitment to interdisciplinary and multi-disciplinary team working
• Experience of supervision of students and assistants
• Evidence of contribution to clinical education and in-service training of less experienced staff/students and assistants
• Understanding of clinical governance and its implications for services including experience of quality issues, audit, and evidence-based practice
• To have attended a clinical educator’s course
• Previous experience in a post at this level
• Knowledge of the working of community and Intermediate Care Services
• Evidence of participation in research
