Job summary

This is a 22.5 hour post based in Prince Philip Hospital, Llanelli.

The postholder will oversee the management of the Orthotics labs within the HB, ensuring protocols and procedures are followed. They will be required to manufacture Orthotics and undertake a limited delegated fitting role. The postholder will work as a clinician assistant within the podiatry clinics.

Main duties of the job

The postholder will provide specialist technical support to the Podiatry and Orthotics Service, leading the manufacturing labs and provision ofhigh-quality orthotic devices across Carmarthenshire.

The role includes day-to-day management of orthotic laboratory operations across multiple sites, ensuring compliance with health and safety legislation, Medical Devices Regulations, and quality standards. The postholder will support clinical service delivery, supervise and train staff, and contribute to service improvement, stock control, and efficient use of resources.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Person specification

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential

  • Evidence of AGORED level 3 qualification relevant to workplace or equivalent training, qualifications or experience
  • Knowledge of production techniques, materials, in the manufacture of complex orthosis to diploma equivalent level
  • Numerate and literate to the level of GCSE Grade C or above
  • I.T skills with basic knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
  • Knowledge of data bases
  • Knowledge of ordering systems e.g. Oracle

Desirable

  • Evidence of role related CPD activities
  • Experience in manufacturing techniques using workshop machinery for the provision of high-quality orthoses and insoles
  • Practical and or design and creative skills
  • IT and CADCAM skills
  • Knowledge of Health Board priorities and practices
  • Knowledge of WPAS
  • Experience in a health care setting
  • Extensive experience in dealing with the public, particularly the elderly either on the telephone or face-to-face

Experience

Essential

  • Working knowledge of specialist therapeutic equipment appropriate to clinical specialty
  • Competent to work with a range of materials, including metals, thermoplastics, wood and polyurethane and closed-cell foams
  • The ability to work unsupervised, taking responsibility for a delegated workload
