Job summary

We are looking for a Speech and Language Therapist to work with children and young people with autism, ADHD and other neurodevelopmental differences, delivering assessment and intervention both in person and remotely.

You will work as part of a wider neurodiversity team, supporting communication, social interaction and language development, and working closely with families, schools and other professionals.

Main duties of the job

Carry out speech, language and communication assessments for children with autism, ADHD and related neurodevelopmental needs.

Plan and deliver individual and group therapy programmes, in clinic, in schools, and via remote/teletherapy platforms.

Work collaboratively with parents, carers, teachers and multidisciplinary colleagues to embed strategies across settings.

Contribute to autism and ADHD diagnostic assessments as part of the wider neurodevelopmental team.

Provide training and coaching to families and education staff on supporting communication needs.

Maintain accurate clinical records and outcome measures in line with RCSLT and Trust standards.

Participate in service development and contribute to a flexible offer including weekday, evening and weekend clinics where required.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Recognised Speech and Language Therapy degree, registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
  • Registration must be maintained throughout employment.
  • Enhanced DBS check with children's barred list (required for post).
Experience

Essential

  • Degree in Speech and Language Therapy and current HCPC registration.
  • Experience working with children with autism and/or ADHD.
  • Experience delivering therapy both face-to-face and remotely.
  • Sound understanding of neurodiversity-affirmative approaches to communication support.
  • Strong collaborative working skills with families, schools and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Willingness to work flexibly, including some weekend or evening sessions where the service requires.

Desirable

  • RCSLT-recognised training in autism or ADHD-specific communication approaches.
  • Experience contributing to multidisciplinary autism/ADHD diagnostic pathways.
  • Experience delivering group interventions (e.g. social communication groups).
  • Membership of relevant special interest groups (e.g. RCSLT Autism/ADHD networks).
