We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Speech and Language Therapist to join our team. You will be supporting children and young people (CYP) with speech, language and communication needs (SLCN) at St. Philips School. This is a special educational needs school for young people aged 9 -19 years. Many students have additional needs such as mild to moderate Autistic Spectrum Disorders, language impairment or emotional issues; a few have sensory or medical needs.

Working with our experienced Speech and Language Therapy Assistant, you will deliver therapy programmes, support communication and empower families and school staff to help children achieve their goals. You will have access to our highly skilled and supportive wider team. Independence, key to the underlying ethos of the school, is supported and developed through a life skills programme, travel training and work experience.

Main duties of the job

Main Duties

Deliver Speech and Language Therapy support for children and young people (CYP) at St Philips School, working closely with school staff, families, Speech and Language Therapy Assistants, and other professionals.

Assess and support the communication needs of CYP with learning difficulties, autism spectrum disorder (ASD), and other additional needs, using appropriate assessment and intervention approaches.

Plan, deliver, and review therapy programmes and outcomes, ensuring support is person-centred and linked to EHCP and educational goals.

Provide advice, training, and support to parents, carers, teachers, and support staff to help develop communication skills across school, home, and daily activities.

This is a permanent term time only post and is for 37.5 hours (5days) per week.

• Of Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) intervention planning, outcome measures, and monitoring to ensure support is functional, meaningful, and evidence based.
• Of a wide range of assessment tools and intervention approaches for children and young people with speech, language, and social communication needs, including telehealth delivery.
• Of outcome planning and review for children and young people receiving SEND Support and Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
• Of current educational legislation, the National Curriculum, SEND Code of Practice, Experts at Hand model and SEN reforms, and EHCP processes.
• Of clinical governance, audit, research, and quality improvement processes.
• Knowledge and application of Total Communication approaches including visual communication systems and interventions, such as TEACCH, AAC, and Makaton signs and symbols.
• Of current clinical developments and best practice within Speech and Language Therapy.
• Good information technology (IT) skills.

Experience

Essential

• Implementation of a range of communication programmes and approaches listed above
• Setting clear therapy plans and monitoring, evaluating and measuring outcomes
• Post qualification experience working with children and young people with SLCN
• Experience of working collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team and with parents and carers to ensure collaborative outcome setting and focused therapy
• Experience of working within a specialist education setting
• Delivering training workshops to a range of professionals -parents- carers to enskill others in a range of therapy approaches, strategies and service delivery and capturing effectiveness of the training
• Clinical supervision of SLT students and SLT Assistants

• Working collaboratively with key partners, e.g., SEN team, Senior Leadership Teams in schools, health and voluntary sector.
