Role: Survey Engineer
Contract Length: 12 months
Location: Swindon Bristol, Cardiff, Birmingham, York are the Main hubs (Hybrid / Site visits)
IR35: Inside
Pay Rate to Candidate: £320 - £420 pd umbrella
Minimum Requirement: PTS AC / DCCR required
Contract Details
- Working Arrangement: Hybrid, with a combination of site-based, office-based and remote working
- Expenses and hire car provided for business travel
- Security Requirements: BPSS, PTS, AC and DC competencies required
The Survey Engineer will be responsible for:
- Leading and delivering topographical and rail infrastructure surveys.
- Establishing, validating and maintaining survey control networks.
- Managing GNSS survey control and coordinate transformation methodologies, including SnakeGrid.
- Extracting, processing and validating point cloud data and survey deliverables.
- Providing technical survey expertise to multidisciplinary project teams.
- Reviewing survey specifications and ensuring outputs meet technical requirements.
- Carrying out quality assurance and verification of survey information.
- Supporting survey governance, standards development and best practice initiatives.
- Coordinating with third-party survey providers and resolving technical issues.
- Identifying opportunities for innovation and continuous improvement in survey methodology and technology.
Essential Skills and Experience
- Significant railway surveying experience.
- Proven experience leading track and rail infrastructure surveys.
- Strong understanding of modern topographical survey techniques.
- Experience establishing and managing GNSS control networks.
- Practical experience using SnakeGrid transformations.
- Experience processing and interpreting point cloud datasets.
- Ability to independently review and assure survey outputs.
- Experience with CAD and point cloud processing software.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Personal Track Safety (PTS) certification.
- Experience working within Rail standards and environments.
Desirable Skills and Qualifications
- Degree in Surveying or a related discipline.
- Chartered Surveyor, Chartered Engineer, or working towards professional accreditation.
- Membership of a relevant professional body such as RICS, ICES or CICES.
- Experience supporting major rail enhancement or renewals programmes.
- Knowledge of railway safety management systems and risk assessment processes.
- Experience developing survey specifications, standards or technical guidance.
