Job summary

We are excited to invite applications for a Therapeutic Radiographer - SRS/T Lead, Band 8a, to provide senior leadership and expert practise to the stereotactic intracranial radiotherapy (SRS/T) service. This is a unique opportunity to take a pivotal role within a highly dynamic and dedicated multi-professional team. We're looking for someone who thrives on collaborative working and can confidently lead the day-to-day coordination of this highly specialised pathway.

In this role you'll work closely with the SRS Lead Clinician becoming a vital point of support for patients as they navigate one of the most complex treatment journeys we deliver. Your contribution will help ensure every patient receives seamless, compassionate, and expertly guided care.

The post holder will participate in the clinical roster and as such will have excellent clinical and technical skills in treatment delivery and image guidance, as well as attending multi-disciplinary meetings to ensure that the key performance indicators of the SRS/T service are achieved. Evidence of proactive organisational, development and leadership skills will be a key requirement of this role.

This appointment is offered at 0.8 WTE (30 hours per week), with core working days being Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. Please see the attached job plan for further information.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be expected to develop highly specialist advanced skills and expertise in the delivery and management of SRS/T, with treatments delivered on a single dedicated treatment unit. Success in this role requires the development of expert knowledge of SRS/T patient pathways, with close liaison across Trust departments and the wider SRS/T network to ensure a seamless and high-quality service. The successful applicant will demonstrate excellent communication and organisational skills, alongside an in-depth understanding of the technical and clinical aspects of SRS/T delivery, enabling them to effectively support the teaching and training of rotational staff and students during placements within this specialist service.

As a member of the Radiotherapy senior management team, you will also contribute to the operational management, strategic direction, and ongoing development of the wider department. Working collaboratively with fellow section leads and senior colleagues, you will help shape service delivery, support departmental objectives, and ensure the provision of safe, effective, and patient-centred radiotherapy services.

About us

The Radiotherapy Service serves a catchment population of approximately 1.6 million and is the provider of radiotherapy for the six London boroughs - Bexley, Bromley, Greenwich, Lambeth, Lewisham and Southwark. The service also receives national referrals from St John's Skin Clinic, based at GSTFT, for patients requiring specialist skin radiotherapy, Total Skin Electron Body radiotherapy (TSEBT). The service also provides TBI and stereotactic radiotherapy, body and intracranial treatment, and radiotherapy for a very small number of private patients. The service delivers in excess of 52,000 radiotherapy treatments and works in closest collaboration with colleagues at King's College NHS Foundation Trust, Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust and Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust.

Education &Qualifications

Essential

  • BSc, PgDip or DCR in Therapeutic Radiography
  • Postgraduate MSc in therapeutic radiography or equivalent knowledge

Desirable

  • Management or leadership qualification
  • Non-medical prescribing certificate
  • Project Management Qualification

Professional Registration

Essential

  • HCPC registration

Experience

Essential

  • Substantial post registration experience of working as a team leader
  • Substantial current experience of working within a treatment specialist / review setting
  • Experience of supervising/line manager of a staff group
  • Current experience of a wide range advanced Radiotherapy techniques e.g. SABR, DIBH, SRS
  • Experience of teaching/training junior staff and students
  • Experience of delivering presentations
