Job Title:Wastewater Deputy Scientific Process Manager (West) Location:Omagh WwTW or Magherafelt WwTW Contract type: Permanent Salary: £35,354 to £47,138 per annum Closing date & time: Monday 07 Sep 2026 10:00 Hybrid working (available after 3 months following onboarding and training) About the Role The Wastewater Services Function of the Customer & Operations Directorate is responsible for the management and operation of some 1,173 Wastewater Treatment Works (WwTWs).

The Wastewater Scientific Process team provides support and advice to Wastewater operations employees on the operation of WwTWs to ensure compliance with regulatory standards, and NI Water targets are achieved.

The team also provides information, data and advice to other functions within NI Water for new WwTWs procurement and refurbishment, and to the Wastewater Networks team in relation to pollution incidents and issues affecting the sewerage system.

The Deputy Scientific Process Managers key function will be to provide assistance/ support to the Wastewater Scientific Process Manager (line manager) and offer advice/ support to Wastewater operational field staff, especially Field Managers in the West region.

RESPONSIBILITIES Provide advice and support to the Wastewater services operational staff (Assets and Networks) on wastewater treatment process and optimisation, network odour issues, pollution incidents, compliance with Northern Ireland Environment Agency (NIEA) Water Order Consents, UWWTW, and NI Water Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).

Liaise with Trade Effluent (TE) Section to reduce the impact of discharges to the sewer that may have effect the Wastewater Treatment Processes.

Prepare Exceedance Investigation Reports and tracking progress of recommended remedial actions.

Lead role in developing and implementation of Energy Efficiency initiatives at WwTWs their area.

Liaise with and provide advice to NI Water colleagues and consultants on capital works schemes.

Provide advice on PPC permits and collect PPC data for reporting purposes.

Applicants MUST be able to demonstrate in their application and where necessary at interview: ESSENTIAL CRITERIA 1.

Have a third level qualification (HNC/HND/Degree), or equivalent, in a relevant scientific or environmental subject AND a minimum of two years experience working in a scientific role within a Wastewater Environment.

OR (in the absence of third level qualification) A minimum of five years experience gained working in a scientific role within a Wastewater Environment.

Demonstrable understanding of the role of scientific advice/management with regards to regulatory compliance for wastewater.

3.

Demonstrable understanding of the operation of a Wastewater Treatment Works.

4.

Demonstrable knowledge of the basic analyses carried out in a wastewater laboratory.

5.

Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook applications.
