A large, progressive secondary school in the Barrow-in-Furness area is seeking a dedicated Year Manager to join their pastoral team this September. Working with a specific year group, you will play a crucial role in bridging the gap between academic learning and pastoral welfare, supporting students to overcome barriers to education and thrive. This position is offered on a temporary basis initially, with a clear view to transitioning into a permanent contract for the right individual. Key Responsibilities Pastoral Leadership: Serve as a key point of contact for students, parents, and external agencies regarding day-to-day welfare, behaviour, and personal development. Behaviour & Attendance Tracking: Monitor and analyse attendance, punctuality, and behaviour data to implement early interventions and improve engagement. Student Support: Work closely with vulnerable students, helping them manage social-emotional challenges and supporting SEN or safeguarding teams where required. Collaboration: Partner closely with Year Leaders, Form Tutors, and teaching staff to cultivate a positive, focused learning environment across the year group. Candidate Requirements Experience: Previous background working with secondary-school-aged children (e.g., as a Year Manager, Pastoral Support Officer, Youth Worker, or Senior Teaching Assistant). Skills: Exceptional communication and conflict-resolution skills, with a natural ability to build trusting relationships with teenagers. Mindset: Firm, fair, and empathetic approach to managing student behaviour and promoting high expectations.
