What the figures are
Teaching Vacancies, the Department for Education's own listing service, where schools state the salary on almost every advert. We take every live full-time teaching assistant advert with an annual salary of £12,000 or more, remove reposts (same school, same title, same region), and report the median of the stated minimums and maximums.
These are advertised ranges, not what any individual is paid, and not a survey. A region needs at least 30 adverts before a figure is shown.
Part-time adverts
A further 493 part-time or term-time-only teaching assistant adverts state an annual salary. A part-time figure may be the pro-rata amount actually paid or the full-time equivalent, and the advert rarely says which, so they are kept out of the table above.
