Job summary

Receive, assist and direct patients in accessing the appropriate service or healthcare professional in a courteous, efficient and effective way. Provide general assistance to the practice team and project a positive and friendly image to the patients and other visitors, either in person or via the telephone

  • Registration and processing of medical notes

About us

Small friendly team consisting of GPs, Nurses, Clinical, administrative and clerical staff. Patient list size over 5100.

Job responsibilities

Administration
  • To have a thorough knowledge of all Practice procedures.
  • To work in accordance of written protocols
  • Pulling/filing notes for surgeries and update as necessary
  • Filing post in medical records
  • Fax and photocopy as requested
  • Generating repeat prescription requests

Reception

  • Receiving patients consulting with members of Practice team
  • Handing completed repeat prescriptions to patient and checking names and address.
  • Be able to cover all reception position as necessary
  • Answering telephone calls in a professional manner
  • Meeting and greeting patients that come to reception

Appointments

  • Process appointment requests for today and future appointments from patients by telephone and in person.
  • Deal with visits requests

Computer

  • Registrations of new patients computer data entry and medical records.
  • Process patients change of address computer data and medical records (have knowledge of Practice area.
  • Booking, cancelling and changing appointments.
  • Process repeat prescription request in accordance with Practice guidelines.
  • Scanning medical records
  • Actioning pathology test results

Telephone

  • Have working knowledge of telephone system, during and after hours.
  • Answering the telephone in a professional manner.

Person specification

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working within in Primary Care

Desirable

  • Experience of working within a GP practice and using EMIS clinical system
Qualifications

Essential

  • GCSEs 5-9 in English and Maths at least

Desirable

  • NVQ level 3 in Health and Social Care
Flexibility

Essential

  • This is a 16hr contract and the shifts are between 8am-8pm Mon-Fri. However, you must be flexible to cover sickness and annual leave and also some Saturdays during the winter months. Please do not apply if you cannot be flexible during these times.
