Waulud Primary School in Luton is seeking a dedicated and visionary leader to join our senior leadership team as Assistant Headteacher - Inclusion Lead. This permanent, full-time non class based position offers an exciting opportunity to drive strategic development while ensuring every child at our vibrant school achieves their full potential.
The successful candidate will be someone who:
- is an outstanding leader with knowledge and application of positive behaviour strategies, including meeting specific behavioural needs
- is able to support the strategic leadership and manage the day-to-day provision and delivery for pupils with SEND, EAL and disadvantaged backgrounds.
- has strong professional knowledge of SEND, including the SEND code of Practice and effective inclusion of all students
- has leadership experience and has high aspirations for all pupil’s achievement and behaviour
- is inspired and passionate about learning and has the ability to motivate and inspire others
- values inclusion and has a genuine interest in working with a team, taking risks and trying new and innovative ways of working
has a clear commitment to whole school improvement with excellent organisation, communication and interpersonal skills to engage the wider community. We believe that children need to understand what they are learning, why they need to know it and to have the opportunity to apply their learning in meaningful ways.
The role:
Collaboratively working with the headteacher to develop the shared vision and strategic plan for the school which inspires and motivates pupils, staff and all other members of the school community, leading on all aspects of the school’s inclusion and focusing on removing barriers to learning for all and each to achieve
To be one of the schools Designated Safeguarding Leads for Safeguarding, including child protection, ensuring safeguarding practice, policies, procedures, systems and training are robust, up to date and implemented by all staff.
Support the Headteacher, Senior Leadership Team, and staff in providing professional, proactive, responsive, and expert inclusion services across the school, facilitating and embedding an inclusive, compassionate, and high performing culture.
Working with the Headteacher and governing board to ensure the school meets its responsibilities under the Equality Act 2010, particularly in relation to reasonable adjustments and access arrangements.
Prepare and review information the governing board is required to publish.
Lead on the development and implementation of wider aspects of inclusion, including attendance, behaviour, Pupil Premium, and Social-Emotional Mental Health Needs (SEMH) and maximise funding opportunities, working parents, carers and external agencies.
Lead the day-to-day operational activities related to inclusion and safeguarding, including attendance at internal and external case reviews, hearings, and appeals. Ensure that reports and assessments are high quality and factual and that schools operate within the appropriate regulatory and statutory frameworks.
Lead on monitoring and reporting inclusion and safeguarding activities across the school, identify issues and opportunities, and warning of early difficulties, and reporting any safeguarding concerns to the Headteacher.
Manage strong working relationships with external stakeholders, so the needs of the pupil(s) are represented and at the forefront of thinking or actions.
Lead on sharing the best practices and learning in inclusion across the school through compliance with relevant legislation best practice, school policies and ensuring all pupils are making progress.
Ensure the development, review, and implementation of inclusion related to polices, processes and procedures.
Be responsible for and able to evidence your own personal development by undertaking relevant training, attending meetings, conferences, and events, and ensuring that you are updated in all matters relevant to the role.
Modelling high quality inclusive and adaptive teaching strategies and coaching sessions.
Carry out additional duties and tasks that may be required within the range of the responsibilities of the post.
Provide leadership and support SLT in executing whole school inclusion relates to polices in accordance with the SEND Code of Practice.
