Job summary
We have an exciting opportunity for a pharmacist to join our Medicine team in Pharmacy.
The postholder will assist in delivering and developing a consistently high-quality clinical pharmacy and medicines management service to patients within Acute Medicine and will also support the medicine pharmacy team who deliver services to medical specialities including Rheumatology, Dermatology, Respiratory and Immunology in accordance with the objectives set by the Principal Pharmacist. The postholder will work closely with the multidisciplinary team, service line leads and divisional managers for the relevant specialties to initiatives and guidelines to ensure safe and cost-effective use of medicines in the Medicine team, and across the interface between primary and secondary care. The postholder will also support the commissioning processes for the safe use of Intravenous Immunoglobulin within the Trust.
Potential candidates will have experience working as a band 7 pharmacist at minimum, with experience of working in Medicine and other associated specialities. You will be comfortable working with nursing and medical staff at ward level. Previous experience of high-cost drug processes and writing of drug reviews and clinical guidelines would also be beneficial.
Main duties of the job
Act as a deputy for Principal Pharmacist when necessaryTo provide a high-quality clinical pharmacy service as part of themultidisciplinary team to medical specialities patients, to ensuremaximum efficacy, safety, and economic drug use and to demonstrate professional accountability to enhance patient care.To act as a clinical role model, and support training and supervision of junior members of the pharmacy teamDevelopment and implementation of clinical guidelinesEffective control of drug expenditure and management of processes regarding high-cost drugsTo support the commissioning and funding processes for intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIg) including adherence to the national NHSE commissioning policy and evaluation of evidence for useTo participate in audits and practice researchTo work with the clinical risk team to minimise the risk of medicines

Education and Professional Qualifications
Essential
- MPharm or equivalent
- Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
- Post graduate diploma in pharmacy practice or equivalent
Desirable
- Registered non-medical prescriber
Experience
Essential
- Significant demonstrable experience of working in hospital-based pharmacy, some experience as a specialist clinical pharmacist and experience working within medicine and /or medical specialties
- Experience of working with high-cost drugs and commissioning processes including individual funding requests (IFRs)
- Experience of managing change and leading service developments
- Experience of managing and analysing drug expenditure
- Experience of writing / implementing clinical guidelines and government directives
- Evidence of multidisciplinary working
- Evidence of comprehensive B6&7 rotations
- Evidence of clinical audit/practice research and the promotion of evidence-based practice
- Experience of appraising staff and giving feedback
