An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic pharmacist to lead our well established critical care pharmacy team.
The postholder will lead the critical care pharmacy team, providing clinical pharmacy services to our critical care areas. You will ideally be a current band 8a pharmacist with experience of working on critical care areas, who is ready to take the next step and lead a team.This role will allow you to lead and develop the pharmacy critical care team in a busy DGH. You will be part of a dynamic and supportive team providing a high level of care.
Main duties of the job
Managing a team of pharmacists and pharmacy technician , ensuring consistent delivery of clinical pharmacy services to critical care areas.
Participate in multidisciplinary ward rounds delivering and promoting high quality, cost effective and patient focused care.
Monitoring drug expenditure and forecasting new drug developments within the specialty.
To work closely with the band 8a critical care and formulary pharmacist to ensure the smooth running of the business arrangements of the monthly medicines management committee.
Developing and implementing policies and guidelines.
Delivery of teaching and training sessions to pharmacy, nursing and medical staff.
Develop and maintain highly specialist knowledge in medicines used within critical care.

Education and Qualifications
Essential
- MRPharmS or equivalent
- Mandatory CPD to maintain fitness to practice
- Diploma/ MSc in Clinical Pharmacy or equivalent
- Good Clinical Practice
- Current GPhC registration as a pharmacist
Desirable
- Management qualification or equivalent experience
- Advanced Clinical Practice qualification or working to or equivalent
- Independent prescriber
Skills and abilities
Essential
- Relevant Hospital Experience
- Critical Care Hospital Pharmacy Experience
- Relevant staff Management experience
- Ability to manage staff
- Leading and Implementing change
- Project Management Experience
- Ability to deal directly with public, senior clinicians & other health service & pharmaceutical industry staff
- Recent Clinical Pharmacy/Ward Pharmacy Experience
- Understanding of Formulary & DUR and clinical trial issues
- Experience of managing or advising on drug expenditure
- Understanding of risk management with medicines usage process
- Ability to work under pressure
- Effective verbal and written communication skills with all disciplines, colleagues & patients and good presentation skills
- Computer literate
- Ability to demonstrate appropriate clinical knowledge and application including where therapy maybe contentious or complex
- Ability to innovate and implement change
- Ability to carry out drugs usage review and drug expenditure analysis
