Job summary

We have a new opportunity to join our Anaesthesia Team at Frimley Park Hospital as a Clinical Fellow in Regional Anaesthesia.

The post is for 12 months commencing either August 2027, February 2028 or August 2028.

The Fellowship is aimed at senior trainees who are in possession of the FRCA (or equivalent) or CCT holders seeking specialised training in regional anaesthesia. The Fellowship can be adapted to support the Fellow in developing specific interests.

Main duties of the job

This Fellowship provides advanced training in regional anaesthesia, enabling the post-holder to develop expertise in ultrasound-guided nerve blocks and continuous catheter techniques while working towards the ESRA Diploma.

The role includes hands-on clinical practice, opportunities to teach on local training courses, and involvement in research, audit and service development projects.

Job responsibilities

Some of the key requirements include:

  • Mastery of a wide range of ultrasound-guided peripheral nerve blocks including advanced techniques and facial plane blocks.
  • Demonstration of relevant sonoanatomy, probe selection, needling techniques, local anaesthetic injection and spread in the context of performing regional nerve blocks
  • Ability to insert peri-neural catheters (e.g. upper and limb, rectus sheath and paravertebral) and manage their use post-operatively including ambulatory local anaesthesia pumps
  • Demonstration of the use of ultrasound for neuraxial regional anaesthesia

  • Full GMC registration
  • Primary FRCA

Desirable

  • Final FRCA or equivalent
  • CCT
Experience

Essential

  • Previous experience of working as an anaesthetist in the UK
  • Experience of undergraduate and post graduate teaching

Desirable

  • Previous clinical experience in regional anaesthesia
Skills and Knowledge

Essential

  • Understanding of clinical governance
  • Evidence of participation in clinical audit
  • Competent to deliver general anaesthesia safely to adults
  • Competent in obstetric anaesthesia
