Job summary

We are delighted to offer an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated and experiencedBand 6 Registered Nurseto join the friendly and dedicated team atAylsham Medical Day Unit (AMDU). AMDU is a nurse-led service providing planned care for patients referred from a wide range of specialties across the Acute Trust. Since its establishment in 2018, the service has continued to grow and develop, caring for more than 11,000 patients in the last year alone.

We provide a range of services, including:

  • Blood product transfusions
  • Intravenous iron therapy
  • Outpatient parenteral antimicrobial therapy (OPAT)
  • Venesection
  • Day-case biopsies
  • Paracentesis
  • Day-case heart failure assessment and management

Our patients are at the heart of everything we do. We care for patients with both acute and chronic conditions, supporting them to remain in their own homes wherever possible. We aim to avoid unnecessary hospital admissions, facilitate early discharge, promote patient independence and improve patient experience.

Main duties of the job

Providesenior clinical leadershipwithin the unit,ensuring safe andefficient patient-centredcare.

Manage patients withacute and chronicmedical conditions, recognising deteriorationand escalating appropriately.

Safely administer andoverseeblood transfusions, IViron, OPAT, venesectionand other ambulatorytreatments.

Support the delivery ofday-case procedures, ensuring appropriate pre- and post-procedure assessment andmonitoring.

Coordinatepatient flow, treatmentschedules and discharge, helping to avoidunnecessary hospital admissions.

Provideclinical advice and supportto Band 5 nurses, HCSWs and students,including delegation andsupervision.

Liaise closely withconsultants, specialistteams and thewider MDTto ensure continuityof care.

Promotesafe discharge, patient education and self-management, enabling patients to remain at home where appropriate.

As a Band 6 nurse, you will be expected to demonstrate a high level of clinical knowledge, assessment and decision-making skills. You will provide clinical leadership within the nurse led unit, acting as a positive role model for colleagues and supporting the development of a safe, effective and supportive working environment. You will work collaboratively with professional colleagues across the Acute Trust to ensure patients receive coordinated, seamless care. You will also contribute to effective communication with patients, relatives and carers, ensuring that information is provided and patients are supported to make informed decisions about their care. You will be encouraged to contribute to clinical governance, audit, quality improvement and service development initiatives, helping to ensure that AMDU continues to provide safe, efficient and innovative care.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Registered Nurse who can demonstrate:

  • Strong clinical assessment and decision-making skills
  • Effective leadership and delegation skills
  • The ability to prioritise and manage a busy and varied workload

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Nurse on the appropriate part of the NMC register
  • Post registration qualification relevant to the clinical area

Desirable

  • Have or be working towards a health related degree
Experience

Essential

  • Significant experience as RN, of which some is to be in a position relevant to the specialty
  • Experience of managing and leading a clinical area
  • Willingness to further develop knowledge and skills and has evidence of continuing professional development
  • Experience of change management
