Engineering Services Manager

Location: Imperial College London

About the Role

Dalkia UK is looking for an experienced Engineering Services Manager to lead technical operations across our Imperial College London contract. This hands-on leadership role combines engineering expertise, technical diagnostics and operational management, supporting supervisors and technicians across multiple sites.

As a key member of the contract management team, you'll oversee planned and reactive maintenance, manage technical escalations and drive improvements in safety, statutory compliance and service delivery. The role is particularly suited to someone with experience in laboratory or healthcare environments.

You'll be supporting a university through the delivery of safe, compliant and well-maintained learning and research environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead supervisors and technicians across multiple sites, supporting staff development through coaching, mentoring and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee planned maintenance, reactive repairs and remedial works, ensuring efficient scheduling, timely completion and statutory compliance.
  • Act as the main contact for technical escalations, carrying out root cause analysis and producing clear technical reports.
  • Build effective working relationships with clients, delivery teams and third-party stakeholders, maintaining clear and transparent communication.
  • Manage subcontractor performance, reviewing risk assessments and method statements (RAMS), maintenance records and compliance documentation.
  • Identify remedial works, develop options and quotations that offer value to the client, and recognise opportunities for business growth.

What We're Looking For

  • A strong technical operations background, including experience managing steam pressure, HVAC, local exhaust ventilation (LEV) and low voltage systems, with a solid understanding of mechanical, electrical and controls disciplines.
  • Proven leadership skills, with the ability to motivate and influence others, exercise sound judgement and take a clear position where established procedures offer limited guidance.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills, with confidence managing challenging situations and working with multiple client stakeholders.
  • Commercial awareness and proficiency in CAFM systems, Microsoft Office and mobile work platforms.
  • IOSH Managing Safely and a recognised apprenticeship or degree with a mechanical engineering bias.

Experience working in laboratory or healthcare environments would further support your application.

Why Join Us?

You'll join a supportive, professional team working within a world-class academic environment. Your expertise will help maintain vital research and healthcare infrastructure, with opportunities to develop your skills and make a meaningful contribution to the performance of the contract.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary
  • 25 days' annual leave plus bank holidays, with the option to buy up to five additional days
  • An additional paid day off to celebrate your birthday
  • Pension scheme with up to 8% employer contribution matching
  • Life assurance and private medical insurance after 12 months
  • Flexible benefits tailored to your lifestyle, including retail discounts, electric vehicle schemes, eye care and technology loans
  • Access to wellbeing resources and a confidential 24/7 Employee Assistance Programme
  • Employee recognition awards and referral bonuses
  • One paid volunteering day annually to support a cause that's important to you
  • Company-issued technology, uniform and PPE where applicable
  • Training and genuine opportunities for career progression across our Facilities Management and wider Group businesses
