Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Facilities Support to work at Maudsley Hospital for the Facilities Department, South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust. Working closely with the Facilities Team Leader.

The successful applicant will have good organisational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

You will communicate with patients, carers, and visitors as well as SLAM staff and health professionals. The post holder will be comfortable with IT and be keen to learn new software packages and processes.

This is a challenging role, driving Trust vehicles, delivering post and laundry around the sites, collection of general, confidential, and clinical waste, also completing small-scale furniture moves

Main duties of the job

To help provide a front line fully comprehensive, professional, and courteous Facilities service for the stakeholders of the Site and Community Sites

As part of the Site's facilities team, the postholder supports the delivery of hotel services, waste disposal, and collection and delivery of equipment and clinical items.

The post holder will work Monday - Friday 0900-1700,

This role is primarily aimed at providing a service at Maudsley Hospital

The Maudsley Hospital is located in Southwark, the nearest train station is Denmark Hill with excellent transport links from central London,

The post holder may be required to travel and work at other sites if necessary.

All employees are required to work in a confidential manner in all aspects of their work.

Job responsibilities

  1. Respond to and update Planet FM service requests
  2. Collection of clinical waste, domestic waste, general waste, confidential waste and laundry from internal departments and associated properties on the main hospital site, ensuring the correct method of storage, disposal and transportation is complied with and that equipment is always locked, reporting issues as they arise.
  3. Segregation of waste and yard management, including Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (W.E.E.E.) waste items.
  4. Collect and distribute items including post, pharmaceuticals, moving furniture & other items across the site and to Trust community properties.
  5. Assist Facilities Team Leader as required with emergency evacuation or other emergency situations.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Full, clean manual driving licence without restriction ,
  • Working knowledge of Health and Safety at Work Act

Desirable

  • GCSE or Equivalent A-C Qualification
  • Fire Warden trained
  • SIA CCTV registered
Experience

Essential

  • Experience of providing a service to the general public

Desirable

  • Experience of driving larger vehicles
  • Previous NHS experience in a Mental Health setting
Knowledge/Skills

Essential

  • Able to communicate clearly, calmly courteously and diplomatically with all levels of staff, patients and carers, some of whom may be distressed.
  • Able to work flexibly, responding to changing priorities.
  • Need to be able to carry out moving and handling duties with the required training and equipment.
  • Good written and spoken English
  • Able to enter data onto a computer system accurately.

Desirable

  • Previous NHS experience in a Mental Health setting
  • Moving & Handling Certification
