Main duties of the job
- Perform observations and basic clinical measurements: BP, pulse, SpO2, temperature, height, weight, BMI, peak flow.
- Phlebotomy and specimen handling; urine dipstick and point-of-care tests as trained.
- ECG recording.
- NHS Health Checks and lifestyle brief interventions (smoking cessation,alcohol screening, weight management, physical activity advice).
- Wound care support: simple dressings, suture/clip removal, leg ulcer care under protocol.
- Immunisations support within scope and training.
- Chaperoning and assisting with procedures.
- Long-term condition recall support.
- Health promotion, signposting to other services.

Job responsibilities
- To support delivery of safe, effective, person-centred care across routine clinics and long-term condition pathways under the supervision of registered clinicians.
- To contribute to prevention and health promotion initiatives, vaccination/immunisation programmes, and reduction of health inequalities across the practice population.
- To maintain high standards of infection prevention and control, accurate clinical documentation, and good patient experience.
Key responsibilities Clinical (under supervision and within competence)
- Perform observations and basic clinical measurements: BP, pulse, SpO2, temperature, height, weight, BMI, peak flow.
- Phlebotomy is an essential and mandatory component of this role, fundamental to the delivery of safe and effective clinical care. The postholder must be competent in accurate blood collection techniques.
- ECG recording.
- NHS Health Checks and lifestyle brief interventions (smoking cessation, alcohol screening, weight management, physical activity advice).
- Wound care support: simple dressings, suture/clip removal, leg ulcer care under protocol.
- Vaccination support within scope and training.
- Chaperoning and assisting with procedures.
- Long-term condition recall support.
- Health promotion, signposting to other services .
Clinical governance and safety
- Work to practice SOPs, escalate red flags promptly to a registered clinician.
- Maintain accurate records.
- Maintain stock, equipment calibration, cold chain support, and room readiness.
- Comply with infection prevention and control, waste disposal, sharps safety.
- Participate in audits and quality improvement projects.
- Safeguarding: identify and escalate concerns in line with policy; record accurately.
Administration and teamwork
- Prepare clinics, manage recalls, send patient communications (SMS/letters), and support data quality/QOF.
- Liaise with colleagues.
- Support equitable access for vulnerable groups with reasonable adjustments.
Scope and supervision
- Work under the direction of a registered clinician.
- Seek guidance when unsure; participate in supervision, debriefs, and annual appraisal.
- Maintain confidentiality and up hold GDPR/IG requirements.
Training, development and appraisal
- Statutory/mandatory training.
- Under take role-specific training.
- Participate in CPD and competency sign off; track learning against the Primary Care Core Capabilities Framework.
