We have a fantastic opportunity for a Healthcare Assistant to join the Primary Care team at HMP Wakefield. A Category A men's prison in Wakefield, West Yorkshire.

The site currently has a capacity of around 630 people. We offer a challenging, yet rewarding to learn and grow your career in healthcare, where you will be fully supported, and no two days are ever the same!  

Hours 37.5 hours per week Mixture of days, nights and weekends Days: 7am - 7:15pm Nights: 7pm - 7:15am

Salary You'll recieve an annual salary up to £29,723 per annum - depending on expereince

Main duties of the job

As our new Healthcare Assistant, your responsibilities will vary. Some of your duties will include:

  • Deliver exceptional care to patients, both in the healthcare department and on the wings
  • Facilitate clinics, including bloods, observations (obs), ECGs, NHS Health checks etc
  • Be involved in the implementation of clinical care packages
  • Support the nursing team with all aspects of care 
  • Act as a second checker in pharmacy as required
  • Support receptions (new patients entering the prison) and assist with triaging new patients
  • You will primarily be working within the Primary Care team, although may be required to carry out duties in the mental health or substance misuse teams

Our new Healthcare Assistant will:
  • Ideally hold an NVQ Level 2 or 3 qualification in Health & Social Care, or Care Certificate
  • Have experience within phlebotomy - this is highly desirable! 
  • Have experience in a clinical care setting previously - ideally from a hospital or prison setting
  • Have clinical experience - venepuncture, ECGs etc
  • Have a non-judgemental and compassionate approach
