Information about the school

Bushmead Primary School is a three form entry primary and nursery school in the North of Luton. We are currently phasing out our previous four form entry until 2028. All staff at our friendly school are committed to providing the best education possible for every pupil. It is our overall aim that everyone at Bushmead should have the opportunity to develop their full potential, through equality of access to a well structured programme of learning and personal growth.

In February 2025 we opened our nursery which has grown and expanded to be a very popular and thriving nursery. This academic year we saw 50% of the nursery pupil move into our Reception year group.

About The Role

This is an exciting opportunity to support whole-class teaching, deliver targeted support, and help shape a positive, inclusive learning environment where every child can succeed.

As a HLTA, you’ll play a key role in supporting pupil progress across the school. You will:

  • Deliver high-quality learning experiences, including whole-class lessons during teacher PPA

  • Support individual pupils and small groups to access the curriculum and make progress

  • Deliver targeted support in literacy, numeracy and other areas based on pupil need

  • Work closely with teachers to plan, assess, and adapt learning opportunities

  • Foster positive relationships with pupils, helping them build confidence, independence and a love of learning

  • Support behaviour for learning and contribute to a nurturing, inclusive classroom environment

  • Take a proactive role in contributing to the wider life of the school community

You will be required to work Monday to Friday 8.30am to 4pm or 5pm (depending on staff meeting days), a total of 34.5 hours per week. This role is term time plus 5 Inset Days. Who You Are

You’ll be a confident, nurturing HLTA with a strong commitment to supporting children's progress and well-being. Whether leading learning during PPA cover or working with small groups, your enthusiasm, initiative, and flexibility will help bring learning to life.

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Holds HLTA status (or equivalent qualification)

  • Has experience planning and delivering lessons across the primary age range

  • Can lead whole-class sessions and adapt to a variety of learners' needs

  • Has a strong background in literacy and numeracy interventions

  • Works collaboratively with colleagues and values inclusion and high expectations

  • Brings energy, empathy, and resilience to every school day
