As an experienced specialist podiatrist within RDaSH you would:

  • Work in varied settings across Doncaster.
  • Provide quality care which focuses on those with high risk conditions, rotate into MDT foot ulcer team, nail surgery.
  • Formulate & implement podiatry interventions, including lower limb MSK assessment, manufacture & provision of insoles for those at increased risk due to long term conditions.
  • An annual appraisal & personal development plan, supportive mentorship & essential learning required by the Trust. RDaSH engage, involve & support staff to reach their full potential.
  • To become part of our Team - involvement in team meetings, make valuable suggestions to influence & help make changes to service, to use innovative technology and make a real difference to patient's health.

Main duties of the job

  • To be responsible for the planning and management of complex and specialised caseloads involving the implementation and co-ordination of highly specialised treatment regimes.
  • To assess, plan and provide the highest quality programmes of podiatric care to patients with a variety of care needs in a variety of settings, especially patients requiring specialist care.
  • To provide professional lead in treatment plans to patients to maintain mobility, independence, viability and to relieve discomfort especially for those patients who are "at risk" because of Diabetics, PVD, Peripheral Neuropathy, RA.
  • To act as clinical lead overseeing Podiatrist and Podiatry Assistant.
  • To adhere to podiatry department and Trust policies, strategies and objectives, and actively contribute in a senior role in their development.

  • To work as part of a multidisciplinary team and act as a source of specialist advice for patients, carers, GP's, other healthcare professionals and for less senior podiatrists within the podiatry team.To maintain and improve assessment and treatment knowledge and skills based upon best practice, particularly specialist knowledge and skills in Diabetes, Rheumatology, Biomechanics, wound management and other core CPD subjects.

  • To work in a variety of settings either as part of a highly specialised hospital team, podiatric surgery theatre, outpatient clinic and provide minor surgery in day theatre when appropriate.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Degree or equivalent diploma in podiatric medicine.
  • H.C.P.C. registered.
  • LA certificate.

Desirable

  • Independent prescribing qualification.
Experience

Essential

  • Experience in clinical supervision of podiatry assistants and community specialist podiatrists.
  • IT skills, keeping up to date with department requirements for smooth day-to-day operation and statistical information to allow strategic planning of service.
  • To have the relevant post graduate training to act as clinical team lead within podiatry.
  • To have a minimum of 5 years post graduate experience in podiatry.
Knowledge

Essential

  • Able to make non-judgemental decisions.
  • Ability to prioritise workload depending on variability and unpredictability of patient / service user dependency.
  • Able to work in complex environments dealing with difficult emotional situations
  • Ability to identify needs and problem solve.

Desirable

  • Understanding of the principles of care management.
  • Awareness of factors that contribute to good health and the importance of promoting these in line with organisational public health policy.
skills/abilities

Essential

  • IT literate
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times in accordance with Trust policies and national guidelines
  • To provide professional lead in judgements around the appropriate site of care, i.e. clinic, home and 2o care visit.
  • To maintain, update and develop personal, professional knowledge and skills achieving high standards of patient care at all times.
  • To lead discussions during patient / service user care management meeting.
  • To ensure effective communication with patients, carers, other health professions, other podiatry groups and other professional bodies using verbal and non-verbal communication tools.
  • To represent podiatry department within Trust at strategic development meetings.
  • To have the required ability to communicate complex and sensitive information to patients, which may be difficult to accept, in an understanding manner
  • To be required to motivate other members of the team, leading and supervising, where necessary.
  • To have the ability to communicate in the role of clinical lead with peers/other members of multi-disciplinary team.
  • To communicate on behalf of patients who have communication barriers such as Alzheimer's, deafness, and dysphasia.
  • To mentor and supervise students on placement within the podiatry department.

Desirable

  • Risk assessment skills.
  • Skilled moving and handling of patients / service users, objects / Equipment following trust policy and local assessment.
