Job summary

The post holder will be a highly specialist clinician and senior member of the Adult Cystic Fibrosis (CF) and Respiratory Medicine Physiotherapy Service. Working across both services, they will provide advanced assessment, clinical management, leadership and service development for adults with highly complex respiratory conditions including cystic fibrosis, bronchiectasis, severe asthma, interstitial lung disease (ILD), primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD), ventilatory failure and other specialist respiratory conditions.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work across inpatient, outpatient, day-case, critical care and virtual settings, supporting the delivery of high-quality specialist physiotherapy services. They will take a lead role in the planning, coordination, delivery and evaluation of care, acting as an expert clinical resource for the multidisciplinary team.

The successful candidate will contribute to service development, quality improvement, clinical research and education, whilst providing clinical supervision and line management support to junior physiotherapists, support staff and students. They will work closely with the Adult CF Clinical Specialty Lead, Lung Therapy Lead and wider multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe, effective and evidence-based patient care.

About us

The Adult Lung Therapy Team is a multi-professional therapy team of Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Speech and Language Therapists, Dieticians, Psychologists and Therapy Support Workers.

We provide in- and outpatient care to adult patients with complex and chronic respiratory conditions, including asthma, bronchiectasis, interstitial lung disease, COPD and neuromuscular conditions.

The Royal Brompton Hospital Adult Cystic Fibrosis (CF) Centre is one of the largest and most advanced CF centres in Europe, providing comprehensive, specialised care to approximately 600 adults living with CF. Physiotherapy is a fundamental component of CF care, and the post-holder will be an integral part of a dynamic, multi-professional therapy team, working closely with fellow AHPs, medical and nursing colleagues. The service is committed to delivering high-quality, evidence-based healthcare within a supportive and compassionate environment.

These teams work closely and collaboratively together and the post holder will work with both teams.

We are part of the Rehab and Therapies Directorate, providing therapy services across all of our hospital sites to the Heart, Lung and Critical Care (HLCC) clinical group.

Job responsibilities

Clinical:

Provide high quality and evidence based physiotherapy to in and out patients with complex and chronic respiratory disease.

Leadership:

Provide clinical and managerial leadership to the physiotherapy and multi-disciplinary teams.

Research/ Audit/ QI:

Undertake and support the team to complete relevant audit, service evaluation, QI and research activity to inform development of practice and services.

Education:

To participate in and deliver local IST and education/ training to the wider MDT

Qualifications

Essential

  • HCPC registered physiotherapist with recognised qualification
  • CSP member

  • M level qualification
  • Membership of special interest groups/ committees
  • Recent attendance at conference and/ or training courses
Knowledge

Essential

  • Significant post qualification experience at senior level
  • Significant post qualification experience in chronic and complex respiratory conditions
  • Relevant experience in CF/ chronic respiratory conditions
  • excellent knowledge of cardiorespiratory physiology and pathophysiology
