Our Merton Speech and Language Therapy Team is expanding! Were offering an exciting full-time highly specialist opportunity within our vibrant, friendly teamthis role will support Mertons response to the SEND reform and lead on delivery of our experts at hand offer for speech and language therapy support in primary schools.

Job responsibilities

To assess children and develop and or implement specialist speech and language therapy treatment to ensure that the Council achieves its strategic aims for all pupils, including those with special educational needs and disabilities

To contribute to the LB Merton policy and approach to raising achievement and establishing provision for all pupils, including those with special educational needs and disabilities.

To provide a peripatetic highly specialist speech and language therapy advisory service to Merton schools and settings

To work as a member of the Merton Speech and Language Therapy Team and the SENDIS service and so contribute to building the capacity of Merton Schools to include pupils with SEN and disabilities.

Person specification

Experience

Essential

  • 1.Recognised Speech and Language Therapy qualification.
  • 2.HCPC registration.
  • 3.Proven experience working with a broad range of SLCN in school-aged children.
  • 4.Experience working in school settings.
  • 5.Experience of teaching through modelling and or training staff in relation to children with communication and interaction difficulties.
  • 6.Experience of working in an interdisciplinary team context.
  • 7.Experience of a range of interventions for children with SCLN.
  • 8.Training and experience in supervision of junior staff/ students.
  • 9.Demonstrate a clear and full understanding of effective strategies in working with pupils with SLCN at universal and targeted level
  • 10.Understanding of current legislation and guidance in relation to SEN, and educational inclusion.
  • 11.Experience contributing to statutory assessments or tribunal processes.
  • 12.Strong leadership, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • 13.Excellent organisation and time management skills.
  • 14.Commitment to inclusive education and person-centered support.
  • 15.A clear understanding of safeguarding issues for staff working supportively in schools and in particular the safeguarding issues for children with SEN and SLCN.
  • 16.Ability to deal with difficult and challenging situations with tact and sensitivity.
  • 17.Ability to travel across the borough.
  • Desirable:
  • 1.A defined area of clinical specialism.
  • 2.Involvement in service development or innovation initiatives.
