Job summary
The appointment is to commence 16th November 2026 for a fixed term period until 30th January 2028 to cover maternity leave of the substantive post holder. MBChB or equivalent is essential. The post does not award a National Training Number. As this post is not recognised as a 'training post', full registration with the GMC with a licence to practise is required, and if the appointee does not hold right of residence in the UK sponsorship will be required. The duties of this post are equivalent toCT1/CT2 and appropriate to an individual who has completed F1 and F2 competencies.
Main duties of the job
There is a responsibility throughout the duration of this post for the post-holder to participate in the service delivery of Infectious Diseases and Tropical Medicine, for inpatients and OPAT patients including cross cover in case of illness or absence of clinical colleagues.
This list is aimed at covering the majority of potential duties:

Working alongside and assisting the IMT and GPST and foundation trainees (F1 and F2) and other ACP and PA's in the day-to-day management of ID inpatients and OPAT patients

Liaise between nurses, other junior doctors, patients, relatives and senior medical staff.

Attend and participate in ward rounds and the consult service as timetabled

Take part in rostered ID emergency medical work

Maintain continued professional development.

Attend weekly educational and multidisciplinary sessions.

Undertake audit at various times throughout the rotations.

Teach student doctors as directed.

Co-operate with members of the personnel department when monitoring hours of work and other personnel issues. Attend appropriate induction in each hospital or new department

Undertake all necessary mandatory training

Comply with all local policies including dress code, annual and study leave

Qualifications
Essential
- Registered with the GMC with a licence to practise
- Basic Medical Degree
Clinical Experience
Essential
- Satisfactory completion of F1 and F2 competencies
- 12 months NHS experience (excluding clinical attachment)
Desirable
- Experience of infection management (Infectious diseases or microbiology)
Teaching and Training
Essential
- Experience of teaching medical students / resident doctors / other allied healthcare professionals
Continuous Professional Development
Essential
- Evidence of participation in CME/CPD in the last 12 months
Desirable
- Maintenance of a CPD diary or portfolio
Personal Attributes
Essential
- Demonstrates behaviour consistent with PROUD values (see appendix)
- Good written communication skills
- The applicant must demonstrate skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking the English language that enables effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues as set out in the GMC' good medical practice (2013)
