Lansdowne Primary Academy is part of the Gateway Learning Community [GLC] which is a partnership of one secondary academy and four primary academies located within Tilbury and Chadwell St Mary in the borough of Thurrock, to the east of London. We are a vibrant, innovative and highly successful organisation: the place of choice to work and learn. Across the 5 academies of the GLC, we celebrate differences and pledge that everyone enjoys an equality of opportunity and is not discriminated against in any way.

We are looking to appoint a strong, enthusiastic and committed SEN Learning Support Assistant, working in Acorns, our resource base. The base is a Thurrock provision catering for pupils with social communication needs and Autism. Successful candidates will be required to work flexibly taking direction from the class teacher to deliver personalised planning. The base has a strong positive behaviour management ethos and a total communication approach. Our students' needs are at the core of our ethos and successful candidates will be required to support the emotional and social development of the young people they work with.

The successful candidate will ideally have experience with children with additional needs and challenging behaviours and must be able to carry out and write up necessary observations to inform and evaluate the child's needs.

Candidates must be able to use their own initiative and will have the following:

  • NVQ Level 2 or equivalent is essential;
  • good standard of education; Maths and English GCSE grades A - C, or equivalent;
  • can provide excellent classroom support in literacy, numeracy and behavioural needs;
  • good organisation and inter-personal skills;
  • good knowledge of ICT;
  • be committed to high achievement from students and themselves.
