Job summary
This post is offered at 8PA per week, and will comprise a mixture of clinical work, including multi-professional and MDT community paediatric clinics at hospital-based clinics, special schools, and other community-based settings, work in the department's Fostering and Adoption Child Health Service, and the Designated Doctor role in the Child Death Overview Panel.
This post is mainly based at Edgware Community hospital, but with clinical commitments at other sites across Barnet.
The successful candidate will be required to contribute to multidisciplinary meetings, governance meetings and processes, teaching, and other departmental meetings. It is expected that Consultants within the team will provide supervision and support to Resident Doctors and other locally employed Junior medical staffing across the Edgware Community Hospital site, and wherein patients have been admitted to one of the following acute hospital sites, and require input from the Community team:
o Barnet & Chase Farm Health Unit
o Royal Free Health Unit
The Barnet Child Development team is an enthusiastic and innovative team looking at ways to redefine the way they work in a changing NHS climate, facing the challenges of providing the very best of clinical care in a community setting. It is well supported by an experienced team of therapists employed by partner NHS organisations and has good cross-agency relationships.
Main duties of the job
Duties & Responsibilities:
The following is not an exhaustive or exclusive list of the duties of a consultant within Paediatrics The appointee to this post is required to:
- Provide senior clinician services to Community Paediatric services as per job plan or as agreed within the Trust.
- Work with consultant colleagues and other staff to ensure efficient use of Trust's resources and contribute actively to clinical governance in the department and to development of quality enhancement projects in the unit.
- Show flexibility and undertake different appropriate clinical tasks within allocated DCC sessions at the request of the clinical manager, as the need arises.
- Actively participate in the Unit's Teaching Programme and undertake supervision, teaching and training of medical trainees and other multi-professional staff, in line with guidance from the relevant Royal Colleges or specialty bodies.
- Actively participate in clinical guidelines development, audit, and CPD.

- 4) Supporting LAC work within dept (AH forms) 1 pa
- 5) SPA 1 pa
The frequencies above are offered as guide, this will be balanced depending on successful applicants interests and the needs of the service and are subject to change. The role at present carries 1PA of standard SPA that includes governance, teaching and training and CPD.
